Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related medical or scientific discipline with 0-1 year experience.
  • Must have met the educational requirements for and passed a recognized Certification Examination for Medical Technologist, also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS.
  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) is required; if not certified, the employee must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical job functions, including standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and in temperature extremes, working from elevated or confined areas, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, grasping, fine manipulation, reaching, repetitive motions, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, exerting up to 50 pounds of force, and using both legs and lower extremities for balance and coordination.
  • Ability to maintain corrected 20/40 vision, recognize objects at close or distant range, discriminate between colors, determine depth and distance relationships, and maintain good peripheral vision.
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction and tactile sensory functions; selected positions also require good olfactory sensory function.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in a latex-safe environment.
  • Ability to be physically qualified for respirator use, initially and as required.
Responsibilities
  • Support high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory.
  • Prepare specimens for testing.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and specialized laboratory tests.
  • Perform quality control, troubleshoot quality-control errors and maintenance procedures, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments.
  • Recognize and evaluate computer data problems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance.
  • Communicate technical information to medical and lay persons.
  • Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal values.
  • Model Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities.
