About the company

Ghost is a platform for professional digital publishing built as an open-source content management system (CMS). It helps independent journalists, writers, and content creators create, manage, and publish online content with a focus on subscriptions and audience growth. The product works as a CMS that offers customizable themes, integrations, and built-in tools to grow subscribers, all accessible through a subscription-based pricing model and a marketplace for professional themes and custom integrations. What sets Ghost apart is its open-source backbone and its emphasis on professional publishing and open collaboration, along with a marketplace that lets users enhance their sites. The company’s goal is to provide a transparent, scalable publishing platform that supports independent journalism and enables creators to monetize their work while benefiting from community-driven development.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Ghost raised $11 million seed led by Andreessen Horowitz on October 5, 2026.
  • Preorders opened October 5, with shipments scheduled for late October 2026.
  • Privacy-first on-device processing and no subscription support premium positioning against cloud assistants.

What critics are saying

  • $3,499 pricing sharply limits adoption beyond enthusiasts and affluent buyers.
  • Local Qwen and Gemma models trail OpenAI and Google frontier cloud systems.
  • A single always-on device holding passwords, health data, and memories invites breach risk.

What makes Ghost unique

  • Core runs conversational AI and memory locally on-device, not Ghost servers.
  • Ghost sells a screenless $3,499 computer, not another software subscription.
  • Core integrates apps, files, smart-home devices, and agentic workflows from one box.
