- Ability to assess and distinguish between varying types of scrap metal material to determine appropriate cutting methods.
- Knowledge of safe cutting and related torch-handling activities, including personal protective equipment, cutting processes, and procedures.
- Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements in a scrap yard environment, including use of proper personal protective equipment.
- Ability to walk more than 1000 yards, stand for extended periods, lift and carry no more than 50 pounds, climb stairs and/or ladders, and perform stooping, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, squatting, seeing, speaking, and hearing.
- Ability to work aboard a marine vessel or in a dismantling yard.
- Cut scrap metal materials into prescribed sizes using a handheld torch in a designated area within the yard.
- Inspect the assigned cutting equipment, including the torch and hoses.
- Ensure proper cutting procedures are followed to prevent equipment damage and personal injury.
- Ensure gas and oxygen filters are in safe condition.
- Inspect cut vessel sections before hot work to ensure tanks have been drained and are free of flammable liquids and that insulation, wood, and cable have been removed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
