Bloomberg Philanthropies directs large-scale philanthropy in five global focus areas: the Arts, Education, the Environment, Government Innovation, and Public Health. Its activities fund and run initiatives that partner with governments, nonprofits, and researchers to improve outcomes in these fields. The organization uses grants, program design, and collaborative efforts to implement programs rather than selling a product. It differs from others by being the charitable arm of Mike Bloomberg, coordinating a global, data-driven set of initiatives across five priority areas through its own offices and international partners. The goal is to improve societal outcomes worldwide in these five areas by supporting evidence-based programs and policy improvements.

Stevens Institute of Technology and Hudson County Community College forge partnership to expand STEM access for transfer Students.

Stevens Institute of Technology and Hudson County Community College forge partnership to expand STEM access for transfer Students. New partnership advances the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative, creating clearer pathways and expanded support for community college students pursuing STEM degrees March 04, 2026 New partnership advances the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative, creating clearer pathways and expanded support for community college students pursuing STEM degrees Hoboken, N.J., March 5, 2026 - Stevens Institute of Technology today announced a new partnership with Hudson County Community College (HCCC), formalizing a new academic relationship designed to create seamless transfer pathways and expand access to STEM education for community college students in New Jersey. The two schools executed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in January. This represents a significant milestone in the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative (STSSI). The STSSI was launched with support from a prestigious grant awarded by the American Talent Initiative (ATI), backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, making Stevens one of just 16 institutions nationwide recognized for efforts to expand access and foster inclusive STEM education. The partnership with HCCC advances four core goals of the initiative: developing meaningful community college partnerships and pathways, providing robust advising from enrollment through graduation, delivering enhanced social and academic support for transfer students and growing scholarship funding for students from lower-income communities. Hudson County Community College students celebrating their commencement day"At Stevens, we believe that talent is everywhere - and our job is to make sure that geography, finances or circumstance are never barriers to a world-class STEM education," said Cindy Chin, Vice President for Enrollment Management at Stevens. "Our partnership with Hudson County Community College reflects our deep commitment to building pathways for students who have worked hard and are ready to thrive at Stevens." Under the MOU, Stevens and HCCC will collaborate on identifying transfer pathways, mapping courses and prerequisites to give students a clear picture of how their academic work will transfer. Students from HCCC will gain access to exclusive early application scholarships and dedicated financial aid counseling. The partnership also opens doors for collaborative research initiatives and ongoing campus engagement events. Hudson County Community College serves a diverse student population across Jersey City and surrounding communities in Hudson County, many of whom are first-generation college students. The partnership with Stevens provides these students with a direct, supported path to a nationally ranked research university. "As STEM now has a growing role in almost every aspect of life, providing HCCC students with opportunities to pursue baccalaureate studies at one of the nation's acclaimed STEM institutes is critical," said Christopher Reber, President of Hudson County Community College. "This partnership helps ensure students will be guided in developing clear pathways to studies at Stevens Institute of Technology and to attaining rewarding careers that benefit our community." Prospective transfer students can learn more about the Stevens Transfer Student Success Initiative and transfer admission at stevens.edu/transfer. Vibrant Art Comes to the Streets of Santa Barbara with the Public's Help

Vibrant art comes to the streets of Santa Barbara with the public's help. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) - With the help of a special grant, a new look will come to the streets of Santa Barbara in a one-of-a-kind art project. Recently a demonstration was held at the Saturday Farmers Market on Carrillo St. and State St. where the colorful and cultural project will ultimately take place. Another one takes place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Lead artists Eddy Jimenez and Irene Ramirez are providing an introduction to Zapotec rug weaving, natural dye techniques, and the cultural symbolism embedded in traditional designs. Textiles will be on display along with educational materials, and live demonstrations. The worksmanship will reflect generations of cultural knowledge and craftsmanship. This is all part of the Bloomberg Asphalt Art Initiative. Santa Barbara was one of only four cities to get this grant in the U.S. The City of Santa Barbara, in collaboration with the County Office of Arts & Culture, has been awarded $100,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies. Santa Barbara County Office of Arts & Culture Executive Director Sarah York Rubin says there will be designs that will likely show community, the ocean and other aspects of the people and region that will, "integrate those ideas into a design that's a design for the street." Beyond painting the street with these designs, there will also be work on the surrounding lights. The asphalt art installation goal is to revitalize the State and Carrillo intersection and enhance pedestrian safety. The final designs will be made in the coming weeks with the painting taking place in the next few months.
