What believers are saying

  • April 2026 ARR hit US$219.8 million, up 10% year over year.
  • Loyola Chicago chose Brightspace on August 5, 2026 for AI-powered learning.
  • Midwestern University selected Brightspace on June 3, 2026 for fall 2026 rollout.

What critics are saying

  • Canvas leads U.S. higher-ed share; Instructure markets that dominance aggressively in 2026.
  • Q1 fiscal 2027 growth excluded K-12 churn, showing fragile retention outside core accounts.
  • If AI features commoditize, Brightspace becomes a switching-cost trap against Canvas and Anthology.

What makes D2L unique

  • Brightspace wins where institutions want deeper analytics, accessibility, and configurable workflows.
  • D2L Lumi embeds AI inside courses, not as a separate add-on.
  • H5P acquisition and open ecosystem strengthen course-creation breadth versus closed LMS rivals.
