Midmark expands accessible care offering with new Barrier-Free exam chairs. September 1, 2026- Midmark Corp. has expanded its Midmark and Ritter Barrier-Free exam chair line to meet growing demand for accessible, compliant exam chair solutions. The brand-new Ritter 228 and 229 Barrier-Free Examination Chairs offer height-adjustable solutions to help healthcare providers deliver quality care to more patients. In 2022, more than 1 in 4 US adults - more than 70 million people - reported having a disability, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For healthcare providers, that means millions of appointments where the right equipment can help improve accessibility, support safer transfers and protect care quality. "As demand for accessible care continues to grow, healthcare facilities need practical ways to support patients with mobility limitations while protecting staff during transfers. The expanded Midmark and Ritter Barrier-Free portfolio provides more ways to meet that need and offers dependable performance in today's demanding clinical environments," explains Tracy Timmerman, EDAC, director of marketing at Midmark. The Ritter 228 and 229 offer compliance with the 2024 US Access Board (USAB) standards without compromising patient comfort or provider ergonomics. The exam chairs feature a 17-inch low seat height for easier patient access while maintaining a 37-inch working height to support ergonomic care and reduce the likelihood of caregiver injury. They also offer USAB-compliant Articulating Knee Crutches to support the patient's thigh, knee and calf during lower body exams and procedures as well as USAB-compliant Patient Support Rails to assist patients in accessing the chair and to provide a stable gripping surface while repositioning on the chair. In addition, the chairs are compatible with patient lifts and help ensure safe patient transfers with no interference. Almost a decade ago, Midmark introduced the Midmark 626 Barrier-Free Examination Chair, which is still the only examination chair that exceeds the 2024 USAB standards with a 15.5" low seat height and an integrated digital scale. With the addition of the 228 and 229, Midmark now offers healthcare providers more options to fit their clinical environments and budgets as they work toward compliance.
