Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Develop empathetic long-term relationships with patients, families, and colleagues through relationship development and care-team coordination.
  • Facilitate patient flow during visits, inform patients and providers of delays, engage patients about visit reasons, update medication and allergy lists, review screening questions such as the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and liaise between patients and practice staff.
  • Provide the provider with a handoff when entering the exam room, including the visit reason, abnormal vital signs, and relevant patient information.
  • Perform medical assisting duties under supervision, including obtaining vital signs, height, and weight measurements; performing electrocardiograms and point-of-care testing; performing phlebotomy; administering immunizations when certified; and assisting with routine procedures.
  • Conduct outreach and basic health coaching for patients with health-maintenance or chronic-disease-management needs and gather related data.
  • Monitor, order, and maintain medical equipment and supplies; keep them clean, sterilized, stocked, and within expiration dates; follow control standards; and maintain unobstructed patient access.
  • Use the electronic health record to queue prescription renewals, add medications for provider review, enter or scribe clinician-directed orders for tests, services, or appointments, and document visit tasks for billing.
  • Schedule diagnostic and laboratory tests and verify patient insurance, prior authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications.
  • Identify Occupational Safety and Health Administration compliance issues, maintain patient-safety practices, report adverse events and near misses, and ensure protected health information is used only for treatment, payment, and healthcare operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Health Science is preferred.
  • A licensed Medical Assistant certificate, Registered Certified Nursing Assistant credential, Certificate 1 EMT Basic License, or Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate is preferred.
  • Certified Medical Assistant status is preferred.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
