About the company

High Valley Transit is an independent public transit district serving Utah's Wasatch Back with fare-free transportation. Its fixed-route buses connect communities in Summit and Wasatch counties with destinations in Park City and Salt Lake County. An on-demand Micro service groups passengers in vans within defined zones, while Valley Ride provides accessible transportation for eligible riders with disabilities. Riders use a trip-planning app or telephone booking, and transit taxes, public grants and county contributions support operations and capital projects. Established in January 2021, the district lists Snyderville, Utah, as its headquarters and maintains its current administrative office at a Park City postal address.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • July 2026 ridership reached 5.4 million fixed-route and 1.5 million microtransit trips.
  • August 2026 brought a new electric vehicle pilot for microtransit, widening fleet modernization.
  • The Bob's 2028 launch targets 5,000 daily commuters with 10-15 minute headways.

What critics are saying

  • SR-224 construction runs through fall 2026, creating lane shifts and rider pain.
  • Route 109 ended in April 2026, showing HVT cuts seasonal service when demand softens.
  • Heavy dependence on sales taxes and grants makes a 2028 BRT delay existential.

What makes High Valley Transit unique

  • Fare-free microtransit and fixed routes give HVT unusually low-friction access across Summit and Wasatch.
  • The Bob SR-224 BRT, approved by FTA in 2026, creates a true regional rapid corridor.
  • HVT pairs rural coverage with app-based dispatch, unlike traditional county bus operators.
