About the company

Aave is a decentralized finance protocol that lets people lend and borrow a wide range of cryptocurrencies without giving up custody of their funds. Depositors lock their crypto into liquidity pools managed by smart contracts on Ethereum and earn interest. Borrowers take loans against collateral that is overcollateralized, meaning the collateral value exceeds the loan value to reduce risk of default. The protocol also offers flash loans, which are uncollateralized and must be borrowed and repaid within the same blockchain transaction. Governance is handled by AAVE token holders who vote on proposals and updates. Compared with many competitors, Aave does not control user funds, supports multiple assets, and includes features like flash loans and on-chain governance, making it a non-custodial, community-driven liquidity protocol. The overall goal is to provide a transparent, programmable, permissionless way to manage crypto liquidity and borrowing across a wide set of assets.

Binance hack fallout: Aave freezes lending across 16 networks.

Binance hack fallout: Aave freezes lending across 16 networks. Aave froze 292 reserves across its V3 and V4 markets following a major Binance security breach that saw attackers steal more than 195,000 ETH and millions of dollars in altcoins. Key takeaways. * Aave froze 292 reserves after attackers drained over 195,000 ETH from Binance wallets. * Bitcoin plunged to $76,320 as Binance confirmed freezing $3 billion in stolen assets. * Binance pledged full reimbursement and aims to resume withdrawals within its 45-hour timeline. Binance exploit drains 195,000 ETH across multiple blockchains. Decentralized finance (DeFi) lending protocol Aave froze lending markets across 16 blockchain networks Thursday following a major security breach involving Binance hot wallets, in which attackers drained more than 195,000 ethereum (ETH) and millions of dollars in altcoins across multiple chains. According to a statement, the exploit began at 3:24 p.m. EST on Oct. 29, 2026, when an attacker initiated a single transaction transferring 167,464 ETH and 63 other tokens from an Ethereum-based Binance hot wallet to an unidentified address. Minutes later, the same attacker received an additional 28,006 ETH from a second Binance wallet, along with assets transferred across Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche. The statement added that the continued inflows, including 444,537 AVAX on Avalanche at 5:04 p.m. EST, indicated that the vulnerability remained active for more than two hours. Following the initial breach, the attacker dispersed funds across more than 20 wallet addresses and began selling tokens such as Uniswap (UNI), Chainlink (LINK) and Aave (AAVE) for ether on decentralized exchanges (DEXs). Attacker deposits $60 million into Aave before emergency freeze. Between 3:58 p.m. EST and 4:01 p.m. EST, before protective measures were implemented, a wallet linked to the attacker deposited $60 million in tether (USDT) into Aave V3 Ethereum Core and borrowed 19,762 wrapped ether (WETH), valued at approximately $44.6 million. Security analysts confirmed that the position remains overcollateralized, with $59.9 million in USDT collateral backing $43.8 million in debt. As a result, the position poses no direct insolvency risk to Aave liquidity providers and remains subject to standard liquidation mechanisms. In response to the exploit, security teams from Aave Labs, Tokenlogic, Certora and partner security providers established a joint emergency response group within 10 minutes of the initial reports to coordinate containment efforts. To prevent the attacker from depositing stolen tokens into other pools, protocol guardians implemented a global freeze rather than selectively pausing individual token reserves or waiting for a five-day community governance vote to lower supply caps. Guardian multisignature wallets executed emergency freeze actions between 4:42 p.m. EST and 6:04 p.m. EST, halting 175 reserves on Aave V3 across 16 networks and 117 reserves on Aave V4 across four networks. The freeze affects major networks, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Optimism, Polygon and BNB Chain. However, the permissioned Horizon real-world asset (RWA) market remains operational, and the team avoided full contract pauses. "We also track the exploiter in real time. We follow every wallet in its cluster on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism and Avalanche, watch for any interaction with Aave, and monitor the Chainlink price feeds that Aave relies on," Aave said in a statement. Under the current restrictions, existing users can repay debts and withdraw collateral, but new deposits and borrowing remain blocked. Binance identifies additional breach points. Meanwhile, in a new update, Binance revealed that the security breach was more complex than initially believed, with investigators identifying additional points of compromise beyond a potentially compromised laptop. "Our initial investigation suggested that the security incident may have involved a compromised laptop, however our subsequent investigation has uncovered additional points of breach," Binance said. The exchange said it was coordinating with law enforcement to investigate the attack and recover affected assets. Binance also confirmed that approximately $3 billion in impacted assets had been frozen through cooperation with its partners. According to the exchange, the unauthorized outflows stopped after it suspended withdrawal services. Binance said deposits remained unaffected and that it was still on track to resume withdrawals within its previously announced 45-hour timeline. Binance also pledged to reimburse all losses using its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and company funds, assuring customers that their assets remained safe. "This was a complex attack, and we are doing all we can in coordination with law enforcement to resolve it," Binance said. "We are still gathering the facts, and will share more directly as we have them." The exchange added that it would continue providing updates through its official communication channels as investigators verified additional information. Crypto markets slide as Aave prepares for staged recovery. Cryptocurrency markets came under immediate pressure following the exploit, with bitcoin plunging to $76,320 and ether falling to $2,170. Tokens directly sold by the attacker experienced steeper declines, with AAVE and LINK each falling 9%, UNI dropping 8% and Arbitrum (ARB) declining 6%. Major fiat-backed stablecoins maintained their pegs, although Aave's GHO stablecoin briefly slipped to $0.997 as users redeemed 4.6 million GHO for USDT through its stability module. Protocol engineers indicated that markets would remain frozen pending further containment updates from Binance and stabilization of the attacker's wallet activity. A staged process to lift the restrictions will be evaluated once those conditions are met. Chainlink launches 24/7 pricing for tokenized RWA markets.

Chainlink launches 24/7 pricing for tokenized RWA markets. Chainlink has launched Chainlink 24/7, a market-data service designed to support continuous pricing for tokenized stocks, commodities and other real-world assets (RWAs). Aave is adopting the service for institutional lending, addressing a key challenge for onchain financial products: managing collateral when traditional markets are closed. Table of contents. Chainlink extends RWA pricing across weekends and holidays. According to Chainlink's official announcement, the new service extends its existing 24/5 equities pricing infrastructure to cover weekends and market holidays. It provides a continuous pricing reference for supported assets, allowing decentralized applications to operate without relying solely on the last available traditional-market price. The launch targets lending protocols, prediction markets and perpetual futures platforms that need updated asset valuations outside conventional trading hours. The system combines pricing from regular, extended and overnight trading sessions with quotes from multiple perpetual-futures venues when traditional markets close. Chainlink says its infrastructure filters stale inputs and limits the influence of outlier prices. However, off-hours pricing reflects activity in derivatives markets rather than live quotes from closed stock exchanges, an important distinction for users assessing the value of tokenized assets. Aave adopts Chainlink 24/7 for institutional RWA lending. Aave is the launch partner for Chainlink 24/7 and is integrating its Data Feeds into Horizon, the protocol's institutional lending platform. The integration will initially support tokenized real-world assets used as collateral, starting with high-volume US equities. Continuous pricing could help the platform assess collateral values and manage liquidation risks during weekends and holidays. The development builds on Aave Horizon's existing focus on bringing tokenized securities into decentralized lending. In February 2026, Aave reported that Horizon had surpassed $440 million in deposits since launching in August 2025. The service allows eligible institutions to borrow stablecoins against tokenized assets, potentially unlocking liquidity without requiring investors to sell their holdings. Continuous pricing addresses a key DeFi lending risk. Traditional equity markets operate on fixed schedules, while blockchain networks and DeFi protocols remain active around the clock. This mismatch can create problems when tokenized stocks serve as collateral because their underlying markets may be closed while borrowing positions continue to accrue interest. Without updated prices, lending protocols may struggle to respond appropriately to changing collateral values. Chainlink 24/7 aims to reduce that gap by giving applications a continuous reference price for supported assets. This could help lending protocols maintain risk controls and enable derivatives platforms to price and settle markets during periods when traditional exchanges are inactive. However, a continuously updated reference price does not eliminate market risk, and the reliability of off-hours valuations still depends on liquidity and the quality of available derivatives-market data. LINK price weakens despite Chainlink's infrastructure launch. The announcement comes as LINK expands its role in tokenized finance, but the launch does not automatically translate into increased demand for LINK. LINK traded at $11.90 on October 29, 2026, giving LINK a market capitalization of approximately $8.89 billion and a 24-hour trading volume of $302.57 million, according to CoinMarketCap. The token was down 0.54% over the previous seven days, indicating that its price remained relatively weak despite LINK's latest infrastructure expansion. LINK says its wider oracle infrastructure supports more than 81% of tokenized RWA value and over 80% of lending markets on Ethereum and Solana. These figures point to the network's existing role in onchain finance, while the new service extends its potential use into markets operating beyond traditional hours. The next indicators to watch are adoption by additional protocols, the range of supported assets and whether continuous pricing translates into measurable growth in onchain lending and trading activity. Chainlink launches 24/7 pricing for tokenised stocks, with Aave's Horizon as first partner

Chainlink is launching a service that keeps prices for stocks, commodities and other traditional assets updating through weekends and holidays. Decentralised lender Aave is the launch partner, according to an announcement shared with CoinDesk. The service, called Chainlink 24/7, fills a gap for blockchain markets that run around the clock while the assets they track do not. When markets close, it combines prices from regular and extended sessions with quotes from perpetual futures venues. The off-hours price therefore reflects derivatives trading, not trades on a closed exchange. Aave will use the feeds for Horizon, its institutional lending platform, where qualified investors can borrow against tokenised assets. The first use will be tokenised versions of heavily traded US stocks. Chainlink's weekday pricing, introduced in January, now covers more than $1.6 billion in tokenised stocks.

Aave launches stock-backed USDC loans on Base through new Equities Hub.

Aave launches stock-backed USDC loans on Base through new Equities Hub. Last Updated: October 23, 2026 Aave, DeFi's biggest lending protocol, has launched its Equities Hub on Base. Built on Aave V4 and live since September 2026, the hub gives eligible investors outside the US a way to borrow USDC against Coinbase tokenized stocks while keeping their shares. At launch, seven tokenized US stocks count as eligible collateral. Users can borrow, repay and withdraw at any hour, 24/7. According to Aave, the protocol has originated more than $1 trillion in loans since 2020. How the loans work. Raising cash by selling stock means losing an asset the holder expected to rise in value. Traditional finance lets shareholders borrow against their positions instead, but those loans come through brokers and private banks on private terms, and only for clients who clear the required minimums. Aave treats this as an open market. A borrower deposits tokenized stocks as collateral, draws USDC up to the market's limits and pays it back whenever they like. Because the terms are public, borrowers can weigh the risks before committing, and lenders can see exactly what sits behind their loans. Why Base. Base is where Coinbase issues its tokenized stocks, which are backed by shares held in a regulated trust on behalf of token holders. Aave said this tie to the underlying asset was important because its model is built around users staying in control of what they own. Any lending market also needs buyers for its collateral. When a position falls below the required collateral level, liquidators must be able to sell enough of the pledged assets to cover what's owed. Coinbase tokenized stocks are already traded on onchain exchanges such as Aerodrome, and Aave says it will revisit its lending limits as token supply and trading depth increase. Native USDC on Base serves as the borrowing currency, and the network's low transaction fees make managing a loan cheaper. "Partnering with Base and doing it on Base is the right approach to create global markets for stock-backed lending," said Stani Kulechov, founder and CEO of Aave. "It's a pathway to get all stocks onchain and make them as productive as possible." What changes. Investors who hold their wealth in public companies instead of crypto now have access to onchain lending through the hub, and USDC suppliers get a new source of borrowing demand. Once more stocks qualify as collateral, developers can build services for investors that traditional lenders haven't reached. Aave is an independent protocol with no affiliation to Coinbase. The tokenized stocks in question aren't available in the US, and the figures cited come from Aave and third-party dashboards and may change.
