About the job

Requirements
  • At least 12 years of experience designing and shipping core infrastructure at a major hyperscaler or specialized high-performance computing cloud.
  • Authoritative knowledge of the Linux kernel, virtualization internals such as KVM, QEMU, and Firecracker, and high-performance networking such as RoCE v2 and InfiniBand.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams through high-ambiguity projects and delivering production-ready, mission-critical systems.
  • A portfolio of significant contributions to the field, such as patents, major open-source contributions, or published research in distributed systems.
  • Ability to explain memory-mapped I/O to engineers and the business value of fabric architecture to the Board.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related analytical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Responsibilities
  • Architect systems that deliver raw GPU throughput through zero-latency InfiniBand/RDMA fabrics for massive-scale training.
  • Design optimized, thin virtualization layers using KVM or custom micro-VMs to provide enterprise-grade isolation while minimizing virtualization overhead.
  • Build a high-performance container substrate using Kubernetes or Slurm that allows AI workloads to burst and scale across heterogeneous GPU nodes.
  • Lead architectural design of the internal cloud fabric and drive the technical roadmap for SR-IOV, RDMA, and virtualized GPU scheduling.
  • Lead workstreams to prototype and productionize novel methods for managing memory, networking, and compute beyond standard cloud distributions.
  • Draft white papers and RFCs defining the compute and networking stack roadmap.
  • Work alongside Staff and Senior engineers to resolve complex race conditions in the I/O path and optimize kernel-level memory pinning for GPU clusters.
  • Represent Crusoe in open-source communities and industry forums to influence cloud-native AI infrastructure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Possession of patents related to network virtualization, GPU scheduling, or distributed file systems.
  • Maintainer status or significant contributions to the Linux Kernel, Kubernetes, or specialized high-performance computing projects.
  • Direct experience optimizing infrastructure for large language model training and inference at scale.
  • Peer-reviewed publications at top systems venues such as OSDI, SOSP, NSDI, or SC; patents; or IETF RFCs.
  • Significant open-source contributions or industry white papers on distributed systems, high-performance networking, or AI infrastructure.

About the company

Crusoe builds and runs data centers for artificial intelligence, placing them near cheap or otherwise wasted energy and handling everything from the power supply to the cloud software. It developed the flagship campus in Abilene, Texas, for Stargate, the AI infrastructure project backed by OpenAI and Oracle. AI companies rent its GPU servers on demand or under longer contracts through Crusoe Cloud to train and run their models, while larger customers lease entire campuses that Crusoe develops and operates for them. The company was founded in 2018, when it began running computers at oil fields on natural gas that would otherwise have been burned off, and it is based in Denver.

What believers are saying

  • Room to grow: Crusoe listed 358 open roles in October 2026, from cloud engineering to factory work.
  • Equity has a path to cash: Crusoe was meeting IPO banks, including Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, in August 2026.
  • Steady work ahead: Crusoe reported over $140 billion in signed customer contracts in September 2026.

What critics are saying

  • Projects aren't safe until built: Google asked Crusoe to leave a 1.8-gigawatt Wyoming campus, then took over in July 2026.
  • The hard part is ahead: only 1 of the 6-plus gigawatts Crusoe had signed was running in September 2026.
  • Less upside for new hires: Crusoe's valuation hit $30.9 billion in September 2026, triple its October 2025 level.

What makes Crusoe unique

  • It makes its own electrical gear instead of waiting on suppliers: two Tulsa factories have built over 2,500 switchboards.
  • Its own MemoryAlloy software lets GPUs share memory, so AI answers start up to 9.9 times faster in Crusoe's tests.
  • Its power-ready land is in demand: Microsoft leased 900 megawatts at Abilene in March 2026 after OpenAI and Oracle passed.

Thinking Machines Lab signs $65M deal with Crusoe for AI inference infrastructure

Crusoe, a vertically integrated AI infrastructure provider, has signed a $65 million annual agreement with Thinking Machines Lab to power inference for the lab's open models on Crusoe Cloud. Through Crusoe Managed Inference, Thinking Machines Lab will serve production workloads including its Inkling models, GLM 5.2 and 5.3, on NVIDIA HGX B200 systems connected with NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking. The service enables Thinking Machines Lab to scale without managing its own inference stack. The companies plan to expand into batch inference for large-scale synthetic data generation. Thinking Machines Lab joins other clients that have taken Crusoe Managed Inference past $100 million in contracted annual recurring revenue less than a year from launch.

Crusoe signs multiyear Perplexity cloud deal for Nvidia AI chips

Crusoe has signed a multiyear cloud agreement to supply Perplexity with Nvidia AI chips for model training and inference, Bloomberg reported Tuesday. The deal's financial terms and capacity were not disclosed. Under the agreement, Crusoe will manage the technology throughout its operating life. More than 1,800 Crusoe employees will receive access to Perplexity's Enterprise Max product, which provides AI-powered search tools. The contract adds to Crusoe's growing cloud business, which recently secured a five-year agreement with Jane Street worth roughly $13 billion. In June, Crusoe reported 4.9 GW of contracted AI infrastructure capacity across its data centre projects and cloud platform, with a development pipeline exceeding 40 GW. Crusoe opened a 400,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Monday.

Crusoe opens second Tulsa facility, doubles workforce to 300 for AI infrastructure manufacturing

Crusoe has opened its second manufacturing facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma, adding 400,000 square feet to its operations and bringing its national manufacturing footprint to roughly 1 million square feet. The AI infrastructure company has hired more than 300 local workers across its two Tulsa sites, up from the 100 initially expected when the first facility opened in 2024. The facilities produce electrical equipment for AI infrastructure, including medium-voltage switchgear, low-voltage switchboards, electrical enclosures, industrial controls, and custom-fabricated copper busbar. The company has supplied more than 2,500 switchboards to its Stargate Project site in Abilene, Texas. Crusoe now employs more than 1,800 people, with 15,000 skilled workers across its sites. The company manufactures components in-house to reduce production time and maintain quality control.
