Requirements
  • Degree equivalent to B.S or Pharm.D from an international school or college of pharmacy
  • Three years practice as a pharmacist in a jurisdiction outside of the United States
  • Valid RPI-Reg Pharmacy Intern in NYS permit within 3 years of hire required
  • Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities
  • Participates in special projects and assignments, including quality assurance, medication safety, and operational and clinical initiatives as available
  • Conducts quality assurance (QA), Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE), or other research to document the value and contribution of clinical pharmacy services
  • Participate in departmental QA processes such as reporting and following up on medication incidents, reconciling medication administration records, cost-savings initiatives, etc.
  • Prepares materials and actively contribute to assigned committees, workgroups, and task forces that advance the mission of the pharmacy department and organization
  • Contributes to the drug distribution process
  • Operates and maintains automated systems or technology
  • Stocks medication areas appropriately, including automated systems, to meet the needs of the area based on demand
  • Rotates stock effectively, checking expiration dates to minimize waste and remove any expired medications from the area
  • Utilizes medication delivery systems efficiently, including pneumatic tube systems and hand delivery
  • Utilizes effective service recovery techniques to troubleshoot and solve problems that may arise in the medication use system and communicates resolution to appropriate staff in a timely manner
  • Triages phone calls and handles medication requests appropriately, deferring all clinical decisions to a licensed pharmacist for follow-up
  • Resolves problems with appropriate and direct communication to all pertinent staff in a clear and concise manner
  • Identifies problems and exhausts reasonable attempts at resolution and communicating progress
  • Problem-solving will often go beyond the specific issue and may require participation in interdisciplinary teams or revising hospital or departmental policies, procedures, or treatment guidelines
  • Contacts supervisor for assistance when the solution is beyond their expertise or authority
  • Other duties as assigned
