About the job

Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, specifically Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • One to three years of engineering experience.
  • Strong proficiency in 3D computer-aided design modeling using SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape, supported by a portfolio of physical projects built by the candidate.
  • A deep understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for custom fabrication rather than relying solely on commercial off-the-shelf components.
  • Practical experience with mechanical assembly and hand tools, along with a solid understanding of structural fits and tolerances.
  • Functional electronics knowledge, including reading schematics, soldering, fabricating wiring harnesses, and diagnosing basic electrical faults.
  • A portfolio, website, or GitHub repository showcasing physical hardware projects designed, built, and assembled by the candidate.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the mechanical architecture and detailed design of custom robotic systems, specialized end-effectors, and unique enclosures.
  • Rapidly prototype and fabricate concepts using 3D printing, computer numerical control machining, laser cutting, and traditional fabrication methods.
  • Own the full build lifecycle by physically assembling mechanical designs and routing electrical wiring and wire harnesses.
  • Lead hardware bring-up and testing, using basic electronics debugging tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes to isolate and resolve hardware issues.
  • Investigate ambiguous, high-level requests, explore constraints, and communicate technical trade-offs before execution.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience or strong interest in machine vision and edge computing integration.
  • Hands-on experience with sensor protocols such as I2C, SPI, and CAN.
  • Basic microcontroller and robot programming using C++, Python, or ROS.
  • Comfort working autonomously through ambiguity and mapping out technical options.
  • Ability to determine when quick tasks require efficient implementation versus when critical components require strict mathematical validation.
  • Ability to proactively work through project exploration with teammates and stakeholders.
