Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of previous experience working with children, such as academic or athletic tutoring, camp counseling, or youth volunteering.
  • A minimum of 1 to 5 years of martial arts teaching experience.
  • Experience as a professional black belt instructor with effective supervision and management of youth, martial arts instruction, positive relationship building, and responsibility for safety and well-being.
  • Skill in a martial art compatible with karate.
  • Ability to provide constructive criticism and implement the company curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with grammatically correct written and oral language with students, families, peers, leadership, and the community.
  • Child abuse clearance and criminal checks are required.
  • Knowledge and ability in the candidate’s martial arts discipline.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all organizational levels in a professional manner.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to the growth and development of youth.
  • Commitment to consistent, high-quality work and organizational growth; excellent judgment and ability to identify problems and quickly find solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise students, provide martial arts-specific instruction, create a safe and fun learning environment, and serve as a positive role model.
  • Provide daily martial arts instruction to students ages 4 to 18 with different ability levels.
  • Demonstrate martial arts techniques, explain the principles behind them, observe and assess student performance, and provide feedback on progress.
  • Supervise groups of students with attention to behavior and group management, health and safety, security, and personal and skill development.
  • Ensure the safety of students and team members in and out of the martial arts area, teach safe training habits, and enforce martial arts rules and regulations.
  • Organize and prepare daily lesson plans in a fun and creative manner.
  • Use effective classroom management skills to lead activities and create an inclusive, fun environment.
  • Work with fellow Activity Specialists and collaborate on daily responsibilities.
  • Follow the company Code of Conduct and maintain the required company appearance.
  • Adhere to company core values and policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching certification is preferred but not required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
