Requirements
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Apps, instructional delivery methods, general classroom activities and routines, social-emotional learning strategies, and positive behavioral supports.
  • Ability to adapt to different school environments, classroom settings, and student populations; work independently with minimal direct supervision; and maintain accountability.
  • Ability to protect confidential personally identifiable information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple school sites and establish effective working relationships with school staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to motivate students, model positive relationship-building skills, supervise student safety and well-being, and support students with varied backgrounds, abilities, exceptionalities, behavioral needs, and learning styles.
  • Ability to de-escalate challenging behaviors and implement evidence-based behavioral intervention strategies.

  • Ability to maintain reliable transportation and travel independently throughout the assigned region.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form using varied communication techniques and tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, and an associate or bachelor’s degree in any field; alternatively, 48 college semester credits or 96 professional development hours with successful completion of the Work Keys Assessments.
  • Ability to maintain Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification through the required renewal process; training will be provided if needed.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s license meeting North Carolina requirements and reliable transportation for regional travel.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct student support across multiple elementary schools to establish effective classroom behavior and model positive relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrate and coach evidence-based behavioral intervention strategies and social-emotional learning techniques for students with diverse needs.
  • Support Coordinating Teachers by implementing behavioral supports at the classroom level and collecting data on student progress and intervention effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement strategies related to behavioral intervention plans and students’ social-emotional development.
  • Coordinate with Social-Emotional Learning Learning Coaches to promote school-wide positive behavioral supports and trauma-informed practices.
  • Provide short-term, intensive support to students experiencing behavioral challenges, including modeling de-escalation and relationship-building strategies for school staff.
  • Respond to urgent behavioral support needs while balancing planned support activities.
  • Provide in-class support that promotes student independence, self-regulation, and self-determination.
  • Assist with low- and high-tech assistive technology and augmentative communication devices for behavioral and communication needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file reports, records, and required documents while documenting services, schools visited, and student progress.
  • Participate in district staff development and continued professional growth in behavioral support, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Assist students with special health care needs, including personal hygiene, restroom functions, diapering, mobility assistance, lifting, positioning, transferring, seizure-control activities, feeding, adaptive equipment, and behavioral assistance.
  • Communicate with Coordinating Teachers, building administrators, and classroom teachers about student needs, intervention effectiveness, and ongoing-support recommendations.
  • Travel independently throughout the district using personal transportation and maintain accurate mileage and time documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with students with behavioral challenges or social-emotional needs.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs, including physical, emotional, behavioral, or learning disabilities or impairments requiring specialized services or accommodations.
  • Training or certification in social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, or positive behavioral interventions and supports.
  • Previous experience in multiple school settings or with diverse student populations.
