Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 21 years old.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of six months of supervisory experience.
  • The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
  • The candidate must possess written and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and reach overhead as needed.
  • The candidate must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified within 60 days of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain a C.N.A. or Personal Care Aide Certificate with 80-hour Personal Care Aide training within six months of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain a 15-hour Medication Aide Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • The candidate must complete a Medication Aide check-off within 30 days of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain Medication Aide Certification within 60 days of completing the check-off.
  • The candidate must have no substantiated findings on the North Carolina Personnel Registry or Health Care Program and must maintain this status during employment.
  • The candidate must have a clear SBI record and maintain this status during employment.
  • The candidate must complete a two-step tuberculin skin test, with the first test before hire and the second within two weeks of the first test.
  • The candidate must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • The candidate must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel, and the general public.
  • The candidate must be able and willing to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • The candidate must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile people in the community.
  • The candidate must maintain resident confidentiality and resident rights at all times.
  • The candidate must be available to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
Responsibilities
  • The role assists the ED/Administrator with management duties, routinely supervises staff, maintains the home's operations in compliance with licensing rules, and assumes full management of the home when the ED/Administrator is absent.
  • The role follows facility policies and procedures governing medication administration to residents.
  • The role notes and reports medication administration errors.
  • The role assists in developing and implementing facility procedures or programs to identify what medication errors occur, when, where, and why they occur, and how they can be prevented.
  • The role completes and submits required administrative forms, charts, reports, and other documentation.
  • The role participates and cooperates with facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator.
  • The role participates in quality assurance programs, the Pharmaceutical Services Committee, and other facility committees or programs affecting medication administration and process accuracy.
  • The role attends and participates in care plan meetings as necessary.
  • The role attends continuing education programs to remain current on professional changes and maintain current certification.
  • The role follows established safety precautions and reports hazardous conditions and equipment.
  • The role assists residents with activities of daily living according to their care plans.
  • The role helps maintain each resident's self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety.
  • The role works cooperatively with staff and relates favorably to residents, families, and visitors.
  • The role works with the resident care coordinator and/or Administrator to resolve residents' needs.
  • The role finds coverage for direct-care staff call-ins.
  • The role keeps the work schedule updated when call-outs or changes occur.
  • The role ensures that all staff training is current and documented.
  • The role continuously monitors the halls.
  • The role conducts staff orientation and supervision during the assigned shift.
  • The role assists with orienting new residents to the home.
  • The role ensures the general well-being of residents at all times.
  • The role meets visitors, responsible parties, family members, and social workers and assists with their visits.
  • The role conducts facility tours as needed.
  • The role applies the adult care home's accident, fire safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and emergency procedures.
  • The role listens to staff and resident concerns or comments and reports issues to the Administrator.
  • The role ensures a quick and appropriate staff response to call lights, alarms, and other signaling devices.
  • The role ensures that residents' care plans are appropriately implemented.
  • The role ensures that medications are properly stored in the building.
  • The role maintains productive working relationships with the nursing department, attending physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
  • The role reports resident complaints or grievances to the Administrator.
  • The role is familiar with residents' bills of rights and assists residents in exercising those rights.
  • The role immediately notifies the Director of concerns about neglect, abuse, or exploitation by other staff.
  • The role follows all regulations required by federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act laws.
  • The role performs other duties required by circumstances.
