About the Company

Philadelphia Gas Works

Municipally owned natural gas distribution utility

Philadelphia Gas Works delivers and sells natural gas to more than 500,000 residential and commercial customers in Philadelphia and maintains about 6,000 miles of gas mains. It is overseen by the Philadelphia Facilities Management Corporation, a city-appointed non-profit, and offers services like account management, billing, and energy assistance programs. As the largest municipally-owned gas utility, PGW differs from investor-owned competitors by focusing on public energy goals and piloting long-term efficiency and safety projects. Its goal is to help Philadelphia reach carbon neutrality by 2050 through safer infrastructure, lower methane emissions, and options like geothermal, biomethane, and weatherization.
