City sues MGM Springfield over alleged host community agreement violations. SPRINGFIELD - The city of Springfield sued MGM on Thursday over what it called violations in its host community agreement with the city, Western Mass News reported today. The city alleges that MGM Resorts International and Blue Tarp Redevelopment have violated the terms of the agreement by failing to employ no fewer than 3,000 people, failing to place no fewer than 2,800 to 3,000 slot and video game machines and 75 to 100 table games on the gaming floor, and failing to refurbish 101 State St. and erecting scaffolding and jersey barriers for the last seven years despite the city's objections. If those situations aren't remedied, the city will not allow a pending sale of the casino to a Canadian investment firm. In response, MGM Resorts International stated, "today, Mayor [Domenic] Sarno and the city of Springfield initiated frivolous litigation to continue to delay its consideration of MGM's request to approve the proposed sale of its interest in MGM Springfield to a well-qualified casino operator."
