Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a current Kentucky nursing license are required.
  • Two years of related research or nursing experience are required.
  • Applicants without ACRP or SoCRA certification must obtain certification within the first three years.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of clinical trial initiation to ensure compliance with sponsors and the Food and Drug Administration, including protocol initiation coordination and data management such as informed consent revisions, submissions to the Institutional Review Board, and completion of research forms.
  • Plan patient recruitment methods; screen potential patients for eligibility by taking current clinical histories, reviewing patient records, and assessing functional and physical status; inform faculty of potential eligibility; educate patients and family members about appropriate available clinical trials; and develop patient and family teaching resources and materials.
  • Coordinate patient visit logistics and clinical activities, including ordering and scheduling protocol-required tests, and coordinate information among all parties for multimodality protocols.
  • Organize protocol in-service training and data management activities to ensure staff understand each protocol; provide regular in-service training to department employees about new studies and area-specific requirements.
  • Coordinate with medical staff to ensure treatment orders accurately reflect protocol requirements, follow patients according to protocol schedules and data documentation, evaluate toxicities, and keep investigators informed of necessary study modifications.
  • Ensure protocol data forms, including case report forms and serious adverse event reports, are completed accurately and on time, and submit them to the Institutional Review Board, sponsors, and the Food and Drug Administration as required.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through multidisciplinary conferences, semiannual meetings, professional oncology meetings, workshops, and other learning opportunities relevant to research methodologies.
Desired Qualifications
  • ACRP or SoCRA certification in Clinical Research, or OCN certification.
