Complete door and loading bay package for DPD. ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems has supported the development of DPD's major new distribution centre at Forrest Park, Newton Aycliffe (UK), supplying and installing a comprehensive package of sectional doors and loading bay equipment designed to maximise efficiency, safety and operational performance. Developed by Barberry, constructed by Caddick Construction and designed by AJA Architects, the state-of-the-art logistics facility has been created to support DPD's continued growth and provide enhanced parcel handling capacity across the North East. To meet the operational demands of a high-volume parcel distribution environment, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems delivered a tailored loading bay and level access solution. ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems supplied and installed 32 'OH1042P' insulated sectional overhead doors to provide secure and efficient level access throughout the facility. Designed to deliver excellent thermal insulation, durability and reliability, the doors feature a vertical lift track arrangement that maximises available internal space while providing unrestricted access for vehicles and operational equipment. Among these installations, 25 level access sectional doors measuring 6,160mm wide were supplied to serve key warehouse access points. A further seven OH1042P doors were equipped with centrally mounted pass doors featuring low-profile 30mm thresholds, panic bars and integrated safety switches. Wind reinforcement trusses were also incorporated to provide enhanced structural stability and long-term performance. To support efficient loading and unloading operations, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems also supplied and installed 11 complete loading bay solutions, each comprising an ASSA ABLOY OH1042P dock door fitted with two rows of vision panels to enhance visibility and safety. The bays were equipped with ASSA ABLOY DL6220T telescopic dock levellers, featuring a 6-tonne load capacity and a 500mm telescopic lip to provide safe and reliable vehicle-to-building access across a variety of trailer configurations. Finished in standard RAL 5010 blue, the dock levellers were complemented by dock shelters, dock buffers and wheel guides, creating a fully integrated loading bay solution designed to improve operational efficiency, protect goods in transit and enhance safety for warehouse personnel and drivers. The combination of insulated sectional doors and advanced loading bay technology provides the performance required within a fast-paced logistics environment, helping to optimise vehicle turnaround times while supporting the building's energy efficiency objectives. As the logistics sector continues to evolve, developments such as DPD's new Forrest Park distribution centre highlight the importance of reliable entrance and loading solutions. By delivering a complete package of doors, dock equipment and loading bay accessories, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems has helped create a facility equipped to support the demands of modern parcel distribution for years to come. Richardson Barberry delivers new DPD distribution hub at Forrest Park. Richardson Barberry has announced the practical completion of leading premium parcel delivery firm DPD's new purpose-built distribution hub at Forrest Park, the £250 million business park development located at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The 63,000 sq ft Grade A logistics facility has been delivered on behalf of DPD, which has committed to a 25-year lease on the eight-acre site. The new hub - located adjacent to Junction 59 of the A1(M) - has the potential to create up to 250 additional roles as DPD expands its operations in the North East. Developed to BREEAM Excellent standards, the facility reflects the shared commitment of Richardson Barberry and DPD to sustainable development and long-term environmental performance. Yorkshire-based main contractor Caddick Construction successfully delivered the project following its appointment by Richardson Barberry, with the completion marking a significant milestone in the continued growth of Forrest Park. Jon Robinson, development director at Richardson Barberry, said: "Handing over DPD's new regional distribution hub is a major milestone for Richardson Barberry, DPD and Forrest Park. From securing the pre-let agreement through to delivery of this high-quality facility, the first of its kind built to the latest DPD build specification for its distribution centres in the UK, the project has demonstrated the strength of demand for best-in-class logistics space in the North East and the quality of the opportunity at Forrest Park, the region's leading employment site. "The state-of-the-art building will support DPD's long-term operational growth while delivering jobs and economic benefits for County Durham. The successful completion of this project further reinforces Forrest Park's position as the region's premier industrial and logistics site. "We are proud to have successfully delivered DPD into the development and look forward to reporting more occupier deals at Forrest Park in the near future. Continuing to see the positive economic impact and much needed jobs it will bring to the local communities and businesses." He added: "We would like to thank DPD, Durham County Council, the Forrest family, Caddick Construction and the wider consultant team for their collaborative approach throughout the development process. This latest milestone continues the momentum at Forrest Park as we progress discussions with further occupiers and advance the next phases of development." Louise Ferguson, head of property at DPD, said: "Barberry Group is excited to see its new facility at Forrest Park reach practical completion. The purpose-built hub provides Barberry Group with the capacity, efficiency and operational resilience Barberry Group require to handle the growing demand for DPD's services in the area, with space to carry on growing for a number of years. "The investment forms part of DPD's ongoing commitment to enhancing and expanding our nationwide network and supports our long-term sustainability ambitions. We look forward to commencing operations from the new hub and continuing to grow our operation in the region." Nick Bramwell, associate director at Savills, said: "The completion of this facility is another important step forward for Forrest Park and demonstrates the success of its long-term vision for the site. DPD's investment will help create new job opportunities and strengthen County Durham's position as a leading location for business investment and logistics operations. "It marks another significant investment by Richardson Barberry in the region's industrial and logistics sector and leaves a lasting legacy through the involvement of local supply chain partners and employment opportunities created throughout the construction programme." Forrest Park is being delivered by Richardson Barberry through a development agreement between Durham County Council and local landowners the Forrest family. Over the next decade, the development has the potential to provide up to 1.8 million sq ft of industrial and logistics space and create more than 3,000 jobs, generating a substantial economic boost for County Durham and the wider North East. Richardson Barberry has secured planning consent for the first phase of development at Forrest Park, comprising 830,500 sq ft of industrial and logistics accommodation across eight units, with significant infrastructure investment already completed to support future occupier growth.
DPD UK to create standalone OOH delivery business. DPD UK has revealed ambitious plans to launch a standalone low-cost business for 'slower and much cheaper' out-of-home deliveries in a bid to become a bigger player in the fast-growing market segment. Over the next 6 - 9 months, the British parcels carrier will create a new company to operate a dedicated OOH service and thus keep it separate from its core premium delivery service, CEO Justin Pegg announced at the Parcel + Post Expo Leadership Conference in London yesterday (Sept 24) in a panel session entitled 'The race to the €1 parcel'. The radical move comes as several leading competitors are all developing different kinds of dual services for home and out-of-home deliveries. Royal Mail is building up its OOH network with the acquisition of Quadient's UK lockers network, Evri is transforming DHL eCommerce UK into its new premium delivery service, and InPost UK is complementing its core OOH lockers business with home deliveries through the former Yodel operation. DPD orders 341 Mercedes-Benz eSprinters ahead of Christmas. DPD is adding 341 Mercedes-Benz eSprinter electric vans to its nationwide delivery fleet as it continues its transition towards lower-emission operations ahead of the crucial Christmas peak. Mercedes-Benz Vans has confirmed that leading delivery company DPD has selected dealer eStar to supply the 341 eSprinters as part of a wider fleet agreement. The first vehicles will enter service from September, with all 341 scheduled to be operational by the end of October. The investment will give DPD additional electric van capacity as it prepares for increased customer demand during the peak Christmas delivery period, while supporting its longer-term fleet decarbonisation strategy. The order also highlights the importance of vehicle uptime as fleet operators increasingly move towards electric commercial vehicles. For a business such as DPD, where deliveries operate seven days a week throughout the year, vehicle availability is critical to maintaining customer service levels. Every new Mercedes-Benz eSprinter will be supported by Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare Complete, providing repair and maintenance support through the manufacturer's nationwide dealer network. The agreement is expected to generate significant long-term aftersales activity across the Mercedes-Benz retailer network, with authorised dealers providing servicing, maintenance and repair support to DPD's electric van fleet. Mercedes-Benz connected vehicle technology will also play a role in maximising uptime. The system can alert DPD and its nominated dealer when a vehicle may require attention, allowing maintenance work to be planned before a fault results in the van being taken off the road. Steve Bridge, Managing Director of eStar, said: "The agreement reflects DPD's focus on whole-life value, with uptime, maintenance support and operational resilience central to the decision. "Reliability extends far beyond the vehicle itself," said Steve. "When customers are judging you literally on whether you deliver or not, having as many of your fleet in service, on the road and operational is a higher business priority than ever, especially in the run up to Christmas when there is increased demand. "A key part of the relationship with DPD is its CompleteCare package, where Fleetpoint can anticipate problems with vehicles in advance, so Fleetpoint can take preventative action, as opposed to only reacting if or when a vehicle needs attention. "It means DPD can concentrate on what they do really well, knowing that Fleetpoint has the backs of their drivers and keep the business moving. "We liken it to the technology that airlines adopt for aircraft, picking out the parts of the plane likely to need maintenance and repair before it becomes an issue, benefitting customers while mitigating the huge cost of having them out of action." Rob Dawson, Head of LCV, DPD UK said "Fleetpoint is delighted to continue working with Mercedes-Benz Vans as a trusted partner. As Fleetpoint continue to invest in a more sustainable fleet, having the right partners alongside Fleetpoint is just as important as having the right vehicles. "The eSprinter gives us the capability we need to support lower-emission deliveries, while Mercedes-Benz Vans' aftersales expertise and nationwide support network will play an important role in keeping our vehicles on the road and our operation moving. We're looking forward to building on the relationship as our fleet continues to evolve." Dawson said another major advantage of partnering with eStar and the Mercedes-Benz Vans network was the ability to mobilise vehicles at scale within a tight timeframe. That capability will be particularly important as DPD prepares for the seasonal increase in parcel volumes. With the entire order due to be operational by the end of October, the company will have additional electric delivery capacity in place before the Christmas peak. The move demonstrates how large delivery fleets are increasingly combining electric vehicle investment with preventative maintenance and connected technology to address the operational challenges associated with fleet electrification. For DPD, the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter order represents both an expansion of its electric van fleet and an investment in the infrastructure and aftersales support needed to keep those vehicles working effectively. Iain Forsyth, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Vans UK, said: "In a fast-moving business landscape, it's becoming increasingly vital for businesses like DPD operating at scale, to need partnerships that ensure vans remain operational to meet customer demands. "DPD deliver seven days a week, 52 weeks a year so it feels good to have their backs and really deliver for them."
DPD strikes electric van fleet deal with Mercedes-Benz. * By Gareth Roberts * | * 10 September 2026 * News DPD has chosen Mercedes-Benz Vans and its dealer partner, eStar, for the deployment of 341 eSprinters as part of a wider fleet agreement. The electric vans will join its fleet ahead of the peak Christmas season to support growing customer demand. Every van will be supported by Mercedes-Benz ServiceCare Complete, providing repair and maintenance support through its dealer network. The partnership is expected to deliver significant long-term aftersales value across the Mercedes-Benz retailer network. Through Mercedes-Benz connected vehicle technology, the van can alert the customer and their nominated dealer when attention may be needed, helping work to be planned before a vehicle is forced off the road. Steve Bridge, managing director of eStar, says that the deal reflects DPD's focus on wholelife value, with "uptime, maintenance support and operational resilience central to the decision". "Reliability extends far beyond the vehicle itself," he added. "When customers are judging you literally on whether you deliver or not, having as many of your fleet in service, on the road and operational is a higher business priority than ever, especially in the run up to Christmas when there is increased demand."
