Responsibilities
Fine grade trenches to the proper elevation and slope for pipe installation.
Check and verify line and grade using lasers, grade rods, and levels.
Assist in laying storm, sanitary sewer, and water main pipe.
Ensure proper trench bedding preparation.
Communicate clearly with equipment operators using hand signals.
Maintain trench safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Assist with placement of manholes, inlets, and structures.
Backfill and compact around installed utilities as directed.
Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
Follow all company safety policies and Occupational Safety and Health Administration trenching standards.
Desired Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
English and Spanish fluency is a plus but not required.

The Hillman is a key member of the underground utility crew responsible for preparing and grading trenches to ensure proper pipe installation. This position works closely with the Excavator Operator, Pipe Layer, and Tailman to establish correct line and grade for storm, sewer, and water systems on heavy civil construction projects. Responsibilities:
