Grand opening date for Dauphin County Wawa announced.

Grand opening date for Dauphin County Wawa announced. Posted: Sep 24, 2026 / 02:42 PM EDT Updated: Sep 24, 2026 / 02:42 PM EDT HUMMLESTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) - Wawa just announced the official opening date for their newest location in Dauphin County, which will replace the former Hoss's Steak and Sea House restaurant. According to Wawa, their newest location, situated at 9009 Bridge Road in Swatara Township, will officially debut to the public on Thursday, October 1, marking Wawa's 66th store location to open in 2026. Local business beat. The company says festivities celebrating the opening will begin at 7:55 a.m. before doors officially open at 8 a.m. Once doors open, free t-shirts will be given away for the first 100 customers as supplies last, as well as free any sized hot coffee through October 4. A ribbon cutting will follow shortly after at 8:30 a.m. This opening comes after the former Hoss's restaurant at 9009 Bridge Street closed its doors in February 2024, after operating in the area since 1992. The property was then listed for $1.15 million. The following year, in June 2025, the former Hoss's restaurant was demolished to make way for the new 5,585-square-foot Wawa convenience store. According to Wawa, each time they open a new store, they invest more than $7.5 million and employ, on average, 140 contractors and local partners. Each of their stores will employ about 35 associates.

Wawa names Diane George as Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy.

Wawa names Diane George as Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy. Wawa, Inc. has appointed Diane George as Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy, adding marketing leadership as the convenience retailer continues to expand its store network and customer reach. George brings experience across brand, marketing, and business leadership. Before joining Wawa, she spent more than four years with La Colombe Coffee Roasters, where she worked across brand and product initiatives, including the Draft Latte, K-Cup, and café programs. Her background also includes work with consumer, food, beverage, and health brands. In her new role, George will focus on marketing and brand strategy at Wawa, a privately held convenience retailer with nearly 1,200 locations across the United States. The company operates stores offering food, beverages, coffee, fuel, and other convenience services. George's appointment comes as Wawa continues its geographic expansion beyond its traditional Mid-Atlantic footprint. The company has expanded into markets including Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and other states, while continuing to build its store network. Her role places brand strategy within a retail environment where customer experience extends across physical stores, digital ordering, products, and day-to-day interactions. Wawa's corporate structure also includes dedicated technology and digital teams focused on personalized customer experiences as the company expands its footprint. George has indicated that her initial approach will involve listening to customers and store associates to understand the brand from the people closest to it. The appointment adds marketing leadership to Wawa as the retailer manages the challenges of maintaining a consistent customer experience while entering new markets. George's background across consumer brands and business strategy brings that experience into a broader marketing and brand strategy remit at Wawa.

New Winslow Wawa delays announced opening; new date not set (photos).

New Winslow Wawa delays announced opening; new date not set (photos). A brand-new "Super" Wawa developed along the White Horse Pike in Winslow Township has surprisingly delayed its announced opening at the last minute, with no new date currently set. The new store was scheduled and advertised on Wawa's website to open Friday, September 18. However, just one day before the planned opening, Wawa removed the listing from their Grand Opening page and stated the opening would not take place as expected and that a new date had not yet been determined. While construction schedules can certainly shift - even for a company as experienced as Wawa - this is the first time I recall seeing a Wawa opening date publicly announced and then postponed at the last minute with no new date. No explanation has been provided for the delay. Earlier in the week I had noticed there wasn't anything all in Facebook about the opening and found it odd... Wawa typically creates Facebook events days (weeks) before an opening and you'll usually see other posts from local community groups and emergency services groups (who participate in the hoagie challenge). I stopped at the property Saturday afternoon, and there was not a single vehicle in the parking lot. That would seem to suggest the store's opening may not be imminent, although that is simply my observation and Wawa has not provided an updated timeline. From the exterior, the building and property appear to be fully completed. The store signage is installed, the parking lot is paved and striped, and the gas pumps and surrounding site improvements appear ready for customers. The layout places the fueling area at the corner of the White Horse Pike and Waterford-Blue Anchor Road intersection. The Wawa convenience store sits to the left of the gas pumps when viewed from the White Horse Pike, set farther away from the intersection. This location appears to include a septic system at the rear of the property, which I do not believe is common for most newer Wawa stores. However, there is no information indicating whether that system - or any other specific issue - is connected to the delayed opening. Once the new Super Wawa receives the green light to open, a nearby classic Wawa is expected to close. That smaller store does not offer gasoline and will effectively be replaced by the larger, modern Wawa being developed on the former D&S Subs property. Former home of D&S Subs. 42Freeway first reported on the plans in December 2024, when it was announced that longtime property tenant D&S Subs would be closing. For more than 40 years, D&S Subs served cheesesteaks, hoagies and other favorites from a small Art Deco-style building at the corner of the White Horse Pike and Waterford-Blue Anchor Road. While the restaurant building itself was relatively small, it sat on a large six-acre property that offered Wawa plenty of room to develop one of its modern convenience stores and fueling facilities. Wawa's interest in the property also coincided with D&S Subs owner Daryl Salvatore's plans to retire after spending decades working behind the grill and supporting the local community. In June 2025, I returned with an update showing that development of the Wawa had started. By that time, the D&S Subs building had been demolished and crews had begun clearing and preparing the property. Now, approximately 15 months later, the new Wawa appears complete - but customers will have to wait a little longer before they can step inside. When Wawa announces a new opening date, I will publish an update. Another new Wawa farther south in Pilesgrove Township, at the Pole Tavern Circle, is also getting close to opening. I expect to have new photos and an update on that location soon, including some of the opening-date expectations being discussed within the local community. Links and location. Wawa serves up support for Fort Campbell service members.

Wawa serves up support for Fort Campbell service members. Friday, September 18, 2026 Clarksville, TN - Just prior to Wawa's grand opening of its first Tennessee store, Fort Campbell USO hosted "Breaking Bread with Heroes," which offered a chance for local service members and their families to meet Chef Robert Irvine of the Robert Irvine Foundation and sample some delicious Wawa products. Outside the USO building, guests of the event found a Wawa truck serving coffee, as well as company mascot Wally Goose greeting everyone as they arrived. Inside, Wawa personnel were handing out samples of their famous muffins, pretzels and other assorted refreshments. Tori Pinner, a Virginia native, is a long-time fan of Wawa. She said, "You have to try their made-to-order food, especially their sandwiches. You can't go wrong ordering any of their hoagies; they are all great!" Wawa and Chef Irvine's Foundation made donations to USO Fort Campbell. Chef Irvine said, "Its Foundation gives back in many ways in support of military service members, veterans, first responders, and their families. "This is my first time at Fort Campbell. I'm working on modernizing the Army's food service, and this is on my list of bases to fix. We will be at Fort Carson this afternoon. We opened a new dining facility there three weeks ago; at Fort Hood, seven weeks ago. Wawa is our partner in "Breaking Bread with Heroes." Our Foundation feeds anywhere from 300 - 3,000 people twice a week somewhere around the world."

Wilmington's third Wawa celebrates opening in style.

Wilmington's third Wawa celebrates opening in style. Wilmington StarNews Sept. 17, 2026, 1:56 p.m. ET * A new Wawa convenience store opened in Wilmington, North Carolina, marking the third in the area. * Wawa plans to open a total of 12 stores in the greater Wilmington market by 2030. * The company intends to expand to 90 stores across North Carolina over the next decade. They went gaga over Wawa. An enthusiastic throng of Wawa aficionados lined up in the early hours of Sept. 17 for the grand opening of the popular convenience store's third location in New Hanover County. The new Wawa at 9010 Senca Drive, the 20th such store in North Carolina, is in the northern part of the county, near the Pender County border. "I get emotional really quick," said Kate Reeder, the Wawa general manager who put a pair of giant scissors to use during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. "It's really exciting to see this come to a fruition." Let the party begin. Wawa celebrated the occasion in Wawa style, creating a festive atmosphere that included giveaways, live music from the American Leadership Academy Coastal rock band, a hoagie-building contest, and Wally Goose, the Wawa mascot. "We like to party," said Alyson Mucha, the company's public relations supervisor. "... We don't go anywhere quietly. We don't go anywhere without confetti." Two other Wawas opened in Wilmington earlier this year at 6800 Carolina Beach Road on May 28 and at 2402 South 17th St. on Aug. 13. In addition, the Wilmington City Council approved a rezoning for a Wawa to be built at 524 South College Road. Wawa by the numbers. Blake Loper, the Wawa area manager, said Wawa has close to 1,300 stores in at least 13 states, with 50,000 associates serving one million customers a day. He said the chain plans to open seven stores in Wilmington and five stores in the greater Wilmington market by 2030. "When we open our doors to a new store, we open our hearts to our community and our partners, the generosity of our customers," Loper said, announcing the awarding of a $2,500 grant by the Wawa Foundation to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. A team of 41 associates selected from over 250 applicants had been training for a month to prepare for the newest store's opening, Loper said. Wawa plans to build six to eight stores per year over the next eight to 10 years in North Carolina for a total of 90 stores statewide. Wawa's business roots can be traced back to an iron foundry in 1803. Loper said, "For years we have heard from people asking to bring our stores across the country, and we are thrilled to finally be here, celebrating (a) milestone in our history," Bob Liepa is the city of Wilmington and public safety reporter for the StarNews.
