About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Nvidia's AI factory push: analysts see $540.6B profit by 2029, 30.5% upside

NVIDIA has announced a slate of AI platforms, including the OpenShell Reference Architecture, DSX POD modular AI factories, and RTX Spark PCs. It also expanded its work with Oracle, Meta, and industrial partners to scale AI training, inference, and agent workloads. The move shows NVIDIA shifting from selling chips to supplying full AI factory blueprints. Oracle will scale its cloud superclusters with Vera Rubin NVL72 systems, Vera CPUs, and Spectrum X networking. Analysts expect revenue growth of 48.7% a year over three years. They forecast net profit rising from $192.9 billion to $540.6 billion by 2029. The consensus price target is $328.72, 30.5% above the current $228.52. Risks include large cloud customers building their own accelerators and regulatory scrutiny.

Nvidia shares rise 0.72% to $219.52 as Vera CPUs launch on Oracle Cloud

Nvidia is pushing deeper into AI spending, with its Vera CPUs and Vera Rubin NVL72 systems now generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The company announced the rollout on October 27. Each NVL72 rack links 72 GPUs. Oracle also plans an eight-GPU HGX Rubin NVL8 system for customers running x86 applications. AI agents need CPUs to run code, retrieve information, and execute tools, giving Nvidia a route beyond GPUs. The planned expansion reaches multiple gigawatts. Nvidia shares rose 0.72% to $219.52 at 9:40 EDT on October 28, giving it a market capitalisation of $5.29 trillion.

Nvidia releases free Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, a 30B-parameter model for 40 languages

Nvidia on Wednesday released Nemotron 3.5 Transcribe, a free, open-weight model that transcribes audio in up to 40 languages. It also launched version 2 of Granary, its open-source speech dataset. Nvidia says the model translates 31 languages to and from English, handles recordings up to an hour long, and tells up to eight speakers apart. It claims the model beats rivals on benchmarks, including Hugging Face's Open ASR Leaderboard. The tools target developers building apps for business meetings and medical transcription. They can tune apps to an industry's jargon in each language. The model works only with recorded audio, not live streams. At 30 billion parameters, Transcribe can run on a single chip, Nvidia says. The release follows Mistral's Voxtral 3, ElevenLabs' Realtime, and Salesforce's Launa-Omni.

Otto Group and Sereact deploy 25 NVIDIA-powered robots to automate retail returns

Otto Group and Sereact are deploying up to 25 NVIDIA-powered, AI-controlled robots in a logistics centre to handle returned items, a labour-intensive task. The robots run on Sereact's Cortex Physical AI and can process items without specific prior training. NVIDIA's systems helped with simulation and testing. Otto Group will deploy the system in two phases to judge whether it can work at large scale. NVIDIA last closed at $217.94, up 0.9%. Advanced Micro Devices rose 5.5% to $560.26 after announcing a partnership with Meta Platforms on AI infrastructure. Broadcom gained 4% to $342.33, and Micron Technology rose 2.8% to $928.76.

Jensen Huang bet Nvidia's last cash on an untested chip in 1997 — now it's worth $5.3T

In 1997, with Nvidia weeks from insolvency, chief executive officer Jensen Huang ordered mass production of the RIVA 128, a graphics chip that existed only in a simulator. He told the Acquired podcast the company had "about six months of cash left." Taping out, the step of sending a design to a factory, is a point of no return. Huang spent about half the company's remaining cash on an emulator to test the design virtually, then skipped prototyping and went straight to TSMC. Nvidia cut staff from about 100 to 40 and survived on a $5 million investment from Sega. The RIVA 128 sold roughly a million units in its first four months, paving the way for the 1999 IPO. Nvidia is now worth about $5.3 trillion.
