Requirements
  • Currently be enrolled in a Dietetic Internship or an accredited university-based Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
  • Have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nutrition or Dietetics, or be currently enrolled in an accredited Coordinated Program in Dietetics.
  • The intern cannot work under the supervision of a family member.
  • The intern cannot care for a patient who is a family member; if a family member is a patient at the facility, the intern will be scheduled on days that patient is absent or assigned to another patient.
Responsibilities
  • Support the company's mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy, and comply with its Compliance Program, regulatory requirements, and policies.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy as part of the dialysis health care team under the direct supervision of a registered dietitian and in accordance with company policies, procedures, training, and applicable regulations.
  • Under direct guidance of the Renal Dietitian, review Renal Nutrition Basics and applicable staff dietitian orientation and training components.
  • Review the typical Renal Dietitian workflow and the role of the registered dietitian.
  • Conduct nutrition interviews with patients.
  • Calculate diet prescription recommendations.
  • Provide nutrition counseling to patients or designated caregivers on the prescribed renal diet.
  • Collect data for initial, 90-day, semi-annual when applicable by state, and annual Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Assessments.
  • Assist the registered dietitian in developing and implementing nutrition plans of care, and provide input to those plans.
  • Review monthly nutrition data with patients or designated caregivers.
  • Practice writing monthly nutrition progress notes.
  • Create nutrition-related projects for patients or staff, such as bulletin boards, education handouts, games, or lobby activities.
  • Attend Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement or other interdisciplinary team meetings with the registered dietitian and participate as appropriate.
  • Perform desk and personal computer work and interact with patients, facility staff, and physicians.
  • Travel between assigned facilities and locations within the community; travel to regional, Business Unit, and Corporate meetings may be required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
