About the job

Requirements
  • Must be in student status at an accredited four-year college or university during the internship and be graduating in August 2027 or later.
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD.
  • The major or program must align with the internship role.
  • Must have demonstrable hands-on project or internship experience developing AI solutions.
Responsibilities
  • Develop an understanding of the business, corporate culture, and structure to support the work.
  • Contribute creative ideas and strategic approaches in response to changing situations.
  • Work with a mentor and partner team to understand a real business problem and help turn it into a working AI solution by breaking it into small, clear tasks.
  • Build and deploy an AI agent on the platform, provide it with tools, manage its context, and handle retries, timeouts, and unexpected model output.
  • Contribute to a shared platform capability, such as evaluation, observability, or internal developer tooling, alongside the engineers who own it.
  • Follow team standards for code quality, testing, code review, and security, and write tests for shipped code.
  • Help measure how well an existing AI solution works, including turning real failures into test cases, and share findings with the team.
  • Take part in stand-ups, planning, and code reviews; ask questions early; and keep the mentor up to date on progress and blockers.
  • Add logging, metrics, and tracing so others can see what the agent did, what it cost, and whether it is healthy.
  • Document the work, hand it off so another engineer can pick it up, and present it to the team at the midpoint and end of the internship.

American Family to acquire Bowhead Specialty for $1.2B

American Family Mutual Insurance Company has agreed to acquire all outstanding shares of Bowhead Specialty Holdings it does not currently own for $34.00 per share in cash, valuing the transaction at approximately $1.2 billion. Bowhead is a growing specialty insurance business providing casualty, professional liability, and healthcare liability insurance products. The company operates through two underwriting models: a "craft" model for large, complex risks and a "digital" model for smaller, scalable businesses. American Family has been a minority stockholder and strategic partner in Bowhead since 2020. The acquisition aims to diversify American Family's commercial portfolio and drive sustainable profitable growth. The transaction is expected to close before the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and Bowhead stockholder approval. American Family will fund the purchase through cash and liquid investments on hand.
