Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, or a related field is required.
  • At least two years of experience in senior living, senior services, or serving special needs populations is required, including experience supporting memory care and/or dementia-focused programming.
  • Excellent communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • The ability to speak, read, write, and understand English is required.
  • Good computer skills with basic professional software such as Microsoft Office and Windows are required, along with the ability to learn new software systems quickly.
  • The ability to work independently, organize tasks, manage concurrent assignments, and lead others in a complex environment is required.
  • Strong motivational skills and a high emotional intelligence quotient are required.
  • A current Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification is required.
  • Frequent travel exceeding 50% is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for community life, engagement, wellness, and memory care across a regional portfolio.
  • Ensure programs use a person-centered, holistic wellness approach supporting residents' cognitive health, physical well-being, emotional resilience, social connections, community involvement, and spiritual enrichment.
  • Integrate engagement and wellness into the overall resident experience while aligning with organizational mission and operational priorities.
  • Create volunteer opportunities and source volunteers to support department strategy.
  • Establish standards and ensure consistent execution of high-quality engagement and wellness programming across communities.
  • Monitor program effectiveness and resident outcomes, using data and feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Promote innovative, evidence-informed practices that enhance resident engagement and quality of life.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and development to Community Life, Wellness, and Memory Care leaders and teams.
  • Support facility leadership with talent strategies including hiring, onboarding, training, and retention.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and organizational expectations related to life enrichment and programming.
  • Manage resident engagement platforms, establish standards, and develop processes for execution, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Support quality assurance, survey readiness, and performance improvement efforts.
  • Partner with operations leadership to align programming with business objectives and resident care goals.
  • Participate in policy creation and appropriate problem-solving methods.
  • Ensure care is provided with respect and dignity for residents, clients, families, and staff, and report complaints and allegations of abuse, misappropriation, or other compliance concerns to appropriate supervisors.
  • Complete annual education requirements, including Compliance, Privacy, Security, and HIPAA training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
