Requirements
  • The candidate must have 5–8 years of experience in a customer-facing solution delivery, consulting, or forward-deployed role, such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Engagement Manager, Solutions Architect with delivery scope, strategic-level Technical Account Manager, Customer Engineering Lead, Implementation Lead, or equivalent.
  • The candidate must have a strong track record of delivering against customer needs with demonstrable customer outcomes.
  • The candidate must have personally owned an enterprise customer's outcome end-to-end.
  • The candidate must communicate precisely across engineering, vice president-level, and C-suite audiences.
  • The candidate must have experience translating customer requirements into buildable engineering work and engineering trade-offs into customer decisions.
  • The candidate must demonstrate end-to-end problem ownership.
  • The candidate must have consulting engagement-manager capabilities, including client management, structured thinking, executive presence, and written clarity, paired with a builder or founding mindset.
  • The candidate must have worked inside a startup or scale-up engineering organization from Series A through Series D.
  • The candidate must be technically fluent enough to read architecture documentation, ask appropriate questions, and participate without a translator in engineering discussions.
  • The candidate must have experience with modern program tooling, specifically Linear and Notion, or be able to explain a transition from Jira, Asana, or Confluence to those tools.
  • The candidate must have strong written communication skills for decision-driving status updates, postmortems, and persuasive memos.
  • The candidate must demonstrate high agency, independently closing loops, defining playbooks, and constructively challenging incorrect decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Own whether NexusOne delivers for a portfolio of 2–4 strategic accounts from customer signature through successful outcomes.
  • Manage gross margin, cost-to-serve, scope discipline, custom work, and hero-engineer attrition risk across the account portfolio.
  • Own the profit-and-loss performance of the accounts and surface delivery and margin risks before they appear on dashboards.
  • Own the customer-side executive relationship with vice presidents of data, chief data officers, and chief technology officers.
  • Develop renewal and expansion strategy in partnership with the chief revenue officer without carrying quota.
  • Stand up the delivery program at the start of each engagement, including the roadmap, milestones, dependencies, governance, and communication cadence.
  • Run the weekly operating rhythm, including internal stand-ups, customer syncs, executive readouts, and escalation reviews.
  • Create and maintain program plans, decision logs, RAID registers, executive status updates, runbooks, and customer-facing roadmaps.
  • Design how Linear and Notion are used across the account portfolio.
  • Translate customer business problems into requirements that the NexusOne platform and engineering organization can solve, and translate engineering trade-offs into customer decisions.
  • Work with Solution Architects and forward-deployed engineers when engagements require architecture depth or implementation work.
  • Control technical commitments by distinguishing in-scope work, roadmap requests, and one-off custom builds.
  • Read architecture documentation, ask technical questions, prepare concise summaries for customer technology executives, and write briefs for engineering scoping.
  • Define customer success outcomes within the first 60 days of each engagement and instrument them.
  • Build customer-health signals using usage trajectory, executive sentiment, milestone slippage, support-ticket patterns, and roadmap-dependency drift.
  • Run quarterly business reviews that provide value to customer executives.
  • Convert customer pain into product-roadmap input and close the loop when the resulting changes are delivered.
  • Partner with the chief revenue officer on expansion conversations using technical credibility and customer relationship knowledge.
  • Hold the cost-to-serve number for each engagement and distinguish managed-service scope, paid one-off work, and roadmap requests.
  • Identify early churn-risk signals and escalate them before they become entrenched.
  • Write the substantive renewal narrative describing delivered outcomes, customer changes, and next steps.
  • Define the NexusOne engagement playbook.
  • Codify successful practices into reusable artifacts for future Forward Deployed Engineering Management hires.
  • Influence the operating model and handoffs between Forward Engineering, the Managed Services Operations function, and Sales.
Desired Qualifications
  • Data, cloud, or platform infrastructure background is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working at Palantir, Anthropic, OpenAI, Databricks, Stripe, Ramp, Mercury, Scale AI, or a comparable forward-deployed environment is a strong differentiator.
  • Direct gross margin or profit-and-loss responsibility on accounts is a strong differentiator.
  • An engineering background, such as a computer science degree, engineering individual-contributor role, or credible technical foundation built on the job, is a strong differentiator.
  • Experience writing the playbook for a function rather than only executing an existing one is a strong differentiator.

What believers are saying

  • June 2024 Insight Partners capital adds runway for hiring, sales, and product development.
  • John Hoffman joined as CRO in June 2024, strengthening enterprise go-to-market execution.
  • Salos Services acquisition broadens BI services and upsell paths into managed analytics.

What critics are saying

  • Snowflake and Databricks can bundle governance, federation, and AI features faster than NexusOne.
  • Nexus depends on complex enterprise integrations; long sales cycles can delay revenue recognition.
  • If customers standardize on one warehouse, NexusOne's control-plane pitch loses urgency.

What makes Nexus Cognitive Technologies unique

  • NexusOne layers over Cloudera, Snowflake, Databricks, and legacy systems without migrations.
  • NexusOne uses open standards: Trino, Iceberg, Ranger, Keycloak, and Kubernetes.
  • Insight Partners backed Nexus Cognitive in June 2024, validating its platform-agnostic data stack.
