Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School is required.
  • Ability to perform dose calculations, double-check product selection accuracy, and perform aseptic and hazardous drug compounding techniques in a USP 797/800-compliant clean room using personal protective equipment is required.
  • Organization and time management skills are required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent customer service must be demonstrated.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the California Department of Consumer Affairs and the California State Board of Pharmacy is required.
  • Fire Life Safety Training from the City of Los Angeles is required; if not held upon hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and distribute medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and according to standard departmental procedures.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and perform drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center.
  • Perform all aspects of the Pyxis automated dispensing systems and assist in ensuring that medications are appropriately barcoded.
  • Prepare chemotherapy using appropriate practices and the Texium system.
  • Generate revenue by calculating, recording, and issuing charges for operating-room billing.
  • Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Consistently document all pharmacy log sheets.
  • Complete monthly medication-expiration assignments and document them consistently.
  • Repackage and unit-dose medications using the MILT4 program.
  • Use aseptic technique.
  • Use computers, telecommunications, Cerner, PowerChart, and Pyxis to triage workflow for efficient medication delivery, including checking medication history, printing labels, and checking drip rates.
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, assisting with restocking, and rotating medications and supplies.
  • Assist health care providers with phone calls by answering questions and requests and triaging calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Manage time and prioritize responsibilities appropriately to maintain shift-specific workflow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • At least 1 year of oncology experience.
