Job Summary:
The Mobility Coach Operator I performs a variety of tasks related to safe transportation of passengers within the City of Greeley mobility Services and Greeley Evans Transit service area, including responsibility for system wide policy adherence, on-time performance, and safety compliance. This position reports to one of the Crew Supervisors.

- Your Role: As a Mobility Coach Operator, you will be pivotal in providing safe, timely, and efficient passenger transportation within the Greeley-Evans Transit service area. Reporting to the Mobility Manager, your responsibilities include ensuring compliance with system policies, maintaining on-time performance, and prioritizing passenger safety.

We offer CDL training for those that do not have a CDL and Passenger Endorsement at the time of hire. As a condition of receiving City-funded CDL license training, employees are required to repay the City of Greeley up to $3,500 if you resign or are terminated for cause within 24 months of your start date. Details will be available in a CDL Training Reimbursement Agreement provided during the interview process.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must obtain a Class A or B CDL permit prior to any offer (within 10 days of interview) https://dmv.colorado.gov/AppointmentScheduling
- Ability to pass and maintain DOT Physical Requirements.
- Must be proficient in reading and speaking English.
- Participation in Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) mandated Drug and Alcohol testing programs.
OR
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
AND
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Previous Transit Bus Operator experience driving a 30-foot bus preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to assist passengers in wheelchairs in getting on and off of vehicles.
Knowledge of and ability to read gauges, operate controls, pedals, levers, and switches found on buses and vans.
Knowledge, understanding, and ability to adhere to Federal Transportation Administration (FTA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
Ability to complete on-going GET bus driver training programs including updates on FTA, DOT, ADA Paratransit, and safety information.
Excellent knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and has a demonstrated ability to perform duties associated with operating paratransit services including the safe transportation of passengers with disabilities.
Able to provide exceptional customer service while adhering to transit Department and City policies and procedures, perform auxiliary tasks with minimal supervision, and provide detailed, accurate, and objective written and verbal reports to dispatchers and supervisors.
Ability to adhere to the work requirements of seasonal service demands, including overtime and extra shift requirements, and limited availability of time off during peak service demands and special events.
Ability to respond professionally to passenger requests / questions and all two-way radio communications.
Ability to safely operate a bus under adverse weather conditions.
Skilled in basic computer operations, word processing and spreadsheet software.
Proficient in the use and application of multiple mobility technologies, including the manifest tablet, automated fare collections, automated voice locator (AVL) systems; destination signs; two-way radio systems; and can assist bus operator trainees in the correct use and procedures for proper use of such systems.
Able and willing to workday or evening shifts, weekends, holiday, and split shifts as assigned, including a variety of shifts such as special service requests, training, and extra shifts during special events or in the event of operator shortage.
Essential Functions:
- Operates transit buses along designated routes, adhering to established schedules while prioritizing safety.
- Completes daily pre- and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT, FTA regulations and city policy, reports safety and maintenance issues to maintenance staff.
- Monitors service performance at time points, responds to mechanical or route delays, and provides support to fellow operators.
- Provides high-quality customer service by answering questions, offering directions, assisting with boarding (e.g., wheelchairs, bikes, luggage), and ensuring ADA compliance.
- Responds appropriately in emergency situations (e.g., accidents, breakdowns), ensuring passenger safety, evacuating if needed, and completing required documentation.
- Conducts basic vehicle upkeep, including refueling (CNG), cleaning vehicle interiors/exteriors, and maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Performs regular inspections and maintenance of transit amenities (bus stops, shelters, benches, signage) and identifies hazards such as ice, snow, or damage.
- Prepares incident/accident reports and documents public complaints accurately and objectively.
- Acts as a team player by communicating service updates and concerns with supervisors and peers and contributes ideas for improving safety and efficiency.
- Supports route planning and scheduling activities through input and feedback to supervisors.
- Provides informal guidance and coaching to new or current operators and may assist in operator training and policy/procedure clarification.
- Uses transit technologies such as tablets, automated fare systems, AVL, radios, and destination signs; helps train others in their use as needed.
- Maintains professionalism, clean appearance, and clear radio communication at all times.
- Promotes a culture of safety by reporting hazards, adhering to protocols, and ensuring safe environments for passengers and staff.

Travel- Standard Local Travel: This position requires occasional local travel within the County. Employees may be expected to walk or drive short distances to attend meetings, trainings, or perform work at other city buildings or partner sites.
Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily inside transit vehicles while operating on public roadways, with additional work performed outdoors, at transit facilities, bus stops, transfer centers, and other City or public locations.
Routinely works in varying traffic, roadway, and weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, rain, snow, ice, wind, construction zones, congested areas, and changing road conditions.
Regularly exposed to vehicle movement, vibration, moderate to high noise levels, vehicle exhaust, fumes, dust, dirt, cleaning products, fuel and vehicle fluids, and other conditions associated with transit operations.
Frequently enters and exits transit vehicles and performs inspections and other duties around buses, moving vehicles, traffic, maintenance areas, and public roadways.
Regularly interacts with passengers and members of the public, including individuals with disabilities, and may encounter challenging, disruptive, confrontational, or emergency situations requiring professional judgment and appropriate response.
May be exposed to bodily fluids, biohazards, communicable illnesses, sharp objects, hazardous materials, or other potentially unsafe conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used as required.
Operates transit vehicles for extended periods while navigating traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, construction, changing roadway conditions, and other potential hazards.
May respond to vehicle accidents, breakdowns, passenger incidents, medical emergencies, evacuations, service disruptions, severe weather, and other emergency or unexpected situations.
Work may involve assisting passengers with accessibility equipment, mobility devices, boarding, deboarding, and other transit-related needs.
Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, split shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency or call-back assignments based on operational needs.
Work requires adherence to applicable safety procedures, traffic laws, federal and state transportation requirements, and City policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:
Mobility: Ability to safely enter and exit transit vehicles repeatedly; walk, stand, climb steps and stairs, and navigate transit facilities, public areas, curbs, sidewalks, and uneven or potentially slippery surfaces. Ability to move around all sides of a vehicle while conducting inspections and responding to operational needs.
Strength: Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition equipment, supplies, mobility devices, and other objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally. Ability to exert the force necessary to manually operate ramps, wheelchair securement systems, emergency equipment, doors, and other transit equipment and to move heavier items with assistance when appropriate.
Endurance: Ability to remain seated and maintain the posture and concentration necessary to safely operate a transit vehicle for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive physical activities throughout a shift, including vehicle entry and exit, passenger assistance, inspections, mobility-device securement, and other operational duties.
Dexterity and Coordination: Ability to continuously or frequently operate steering, braking, acceleration, transmission, switches, controls, radios, fare equipment, tablets, and other vehicle technology. Requires sufficient hand-eye-foot coordination, bilateral hand use, grasping, gripping, reaching, and fine motor control to safely operate a commercial transit vehicle and associated equipment.
Range of Motion and Flexibility: Ability to turn the head and upper body to monitor mirrors, passengers, traffic, and surrounding conditions. Ability to bend, twist, reach overhead, forward, and below waist level; stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and work in awkward or restricted positions while performing inspections, assisting passengers, securing mobility devices, cleaning vehicles, or addressing equipment and operational needs.
Vision: Sufficient near, distance, peripheral, depth, and color vision, with or without corrective lenses, to safely operate a commercial vehicle; monitor mirrors, passengers, traffic signals, roadway conditions and hazards; judge distances and clearances; and read signs, gauges, displays, schedules, and other operating information.
Hearing and Communication: Ability to hear and understand passenger requests, radio communications, traffic and environmental sounds, warning signals, alarms, and equipment sounds in environments with varying levels of background noise. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with passengers, Dispatch, supervisors, emergency responders, and other employees.
Environmental Tolerance: Ability to perform essential physical duties in varying temperatures and weather conditions and around traffic, vehicle exhaust, noise, vibration, dust, cleaning products, vehicle fluids, and other conditions associated with transit operations.
Sustained Attention: Ability to maintain the physical readiness, alertness, and sustained attention necessary to safely operate a transit vehicle for extended periods while simultaneously monitoring traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, passengers, vehicle conditions, and changing roadway conditions.
