Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or a related science from an accredited school is required.
  • Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist through the New York State Department of Education is required.
  • Competency in one or two major laboratory sections, including Blood Bank, Hematology, or Chemistry, is required.
  • Must work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and monitor the department's quality control policies and ensure documentation of all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Ensure departmental supplies are stocked and well maintained.
  • Correlate laboratory methods, procedures, and patient test results with age-specific population criteria, and demonstrate an appropriate understanding of the needs of patients and visitors for each specific age group.
  • Address safety and psychological needs when planning or delivering care.
  • Establish and implement service priorities and workflow patterns, and monitor workflow to assure prompt and efficient delivery of services.
  • Evaluate departmental performance and recommend measures to improve services and the quality of current methodologies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and/or microbiology is preferred.
  • Hospital experience is desired.
