Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution; a combination of five years of education and experience may substitute for the degree.
  • At least three years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • At least three years of experience managing a large team across multiple shifts.
  • Knowledge of food processing systems, statistical process control, and computer-aided design.
  • Knowledge of food-industry regulatory requirements and utility systems, including refrigeration and freezing systems, boilers, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and programmable logic controller controls.
  • Strong customer focus and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization in a timely and professional manner.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and the ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficiency with computers and the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills and precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to traverse facilities and stairs, work indoors and outdoors in extreme wet, cold, hot, or humid environments, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs, including wearing required protective equipment where mandatory.
Responsibilities
  • Manage all aspects of the maintenance function to ensure safe working conditions and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage a large maintenance team across multiple shifts through subordinate supervisors to keep production machinery operating at optimal capacity and maintain facilities and grounds.
  • Establish and maintain the preventive maintenance program.
  • Determine work-order priorities and schedule machine and equipment repairs, maintenance, and installations to minimize manufacturing disruption.
  • Supervise maintenance department personnel in daily operations to minimize downtime and costs and optimize accountability, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Manage the department budget within approved limits and monitor and recommend cost-saving and standardization methods.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities with operating teams.
  • Work with Accounting, Engineering, Product Development, and Quality Assurance on maintenance issues, new-equipment installation, capital projects, and process-improvement initiatives.
  • Establish and enforce standard operating procedures for the maintenance function within the processing plant.
  • Mentor, coach, train, and cross-train employees while encouraging career development and providing feedback on strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Administer performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions fairly and consistently.
  • Promote and enforce safety initiatives and ensure subordinates adhere to them.
  • Establish, communicate, and maintain expectations supporting safety and company standards and provide clear direction to employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
