Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as recreational therapy, music therapy, art therapy, or occupational therapy, is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare field is required.
- Certification or registration is preferred.
- Excellent communication, assessment, evaluation, and interpretation skills are required.
- Knowledge of psychiatric and addictive disease diagnoses and treatment is required.
- Flexibility is required.
- Understanding of, or the ability to understand, DSM-5-TR methodology is required.
- Applicants must hold one of the listed credentials: CTRS, TRS/TXC, MT-BC, ATR, or LOTR.
- Applicants must have current CPR certification or complete CPR certification during orientation.
- Applicants must have Hospital De-escalation Certification or complete it during orientation.
- The role requires the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds frequently, and negligible force constantly to move objects.
- The role involves activities inside and outside and exposure to varied physical conditions, including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding and high places, high heat, and chemicals.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team to provide therapeutic recreational and activity services to adult, adolescent, or child patients with emotional or substance abuse problems.
- Develop and implement activity therapy treatment plans in concert with the interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Apply activity therapy theory and methodology.
- Contribute to discharge planning.
- Plan and prepare activities.
Desired Qualifications
- Inpatient psychiatric experience is preferred.
- Teaching or training skills are helpful.
