Requirements

  • Completion of University of Rochester-required training for hazardous-material handling and use of environmental-monitoring equipment is required within 30 days.
Responsibilities
  • Disinfect USP <797>-regulated or cGMP-regulated sterile compounding environments throughout pharmacy facilities and assist with the ongoing mandated microbiological air and surface monitoring program to ensure site microbial control.
  • Assist with and implement the USP <800> hazardous drug handling environmental surface monitoring program at the department's discretion.
  • Coordinate and oversee technique development for new processes and supplies, ensure thorough documentation and records, and implement changes in collaboration with leadership as standards dictate.
  • Sanitize and disinfect pharmacy sterile compounding cleanroom facilities in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and USP standards; sanitize as needed after cleanroom air-handling shutdowns and sanitize equipment and medication storage areas related to cleanrooms.
  • Conduct interim internal testing of pharmacy cleanroom spaces and equipment off-cycle from required external vendor certification, as defined in current policy, and maintain knowledge of and adhere to policy updates and revisions.
  • Conduct airborne non-viable particle count testing, airborne viable particle testing, and viable-particle surface sampling in sterile compounding cleanroom areas according to departmental policy and federal standards.
  • Use aseptic techniques to obtain surface samples on manual agar growth media in sterile compounding cleanroom areas.
  • Incubate and review agar plates for accurate environmental assessment of sterile compounding cleanrooms, and document environmental monitoring activities, results, and trend data for senior management review.
  • Coordinate validation and effectiveness studies of techniques and supplies for the quality-control program in accordance with USP standards, and document the conduct and results of validation quality-control testing according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Provide input on standard operating procedures and data-recording tools for sanitizing and disinfecting, environmental control, and hazardous-drug surface testing activities.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a hazardous-drug surface surveillance program, establish procedures for using test kits, and ensure applicable sites are tested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior hazardous-material training, quality-control experience, and/or cleanroom experience is preferred.
