Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED, equivalent work experience, and trade or technical school classes are required.
  • A valid Environmental Protection Agency certificate is required.
  • Three to five years of experience in commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, refrigeration, and electrical work is required.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; ice machines; gas furnaces; and electrical systems is required.
  • Knowledge of single and multiple-unit systems, rack systems, parallel racks, rack control units, display cases, and walk-in boxes is required.
  • Strong knowledge of open circuits on a rack compressor control circuit is required.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout and arc-flash equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of case lineups with electric defrost circuits is required.
  • Knowledge and ability to use an RS engineering sheet is required.
  • Knowledge of minimum discharge-air/return-air and saturated suction temperature requirements for freezer and ice-cream systems is required.
  • Ability to identify refrigeration floor-plan symbols is required.
  • Ability to take readings of compressor parameters and compression ratios and repair deficiencies is required.
  • Knowledge of proper material-handling techniques is required.
  • Knowledge of HVAC valve settings, preventive maintenance, leak detection with a refrigerant leak detector, and reporting large refrigerant leaks is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate proper personal protective equipment and safety equipment is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 pounds without assistance and sit or stand for several hours at a time is required.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record are required.
  • Ability to understand and follow company policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws is required.
  • Ability to use standard business tools including email, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel is required.
Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair refrigeration systems.
  • Repair and overhaul compressors, water pumps, air handlers, electrical and mechanical control devices, and similar machinery.
  • Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Maintain legible corporate and personal records of work history.
  • Perform general repairs on refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment, including air-conditioning units, evaporative condensers, ice machines, water pumps, gas furnaces, compressors, and electric motors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance activities, diagnose equipment malfunctions, and assess the operating efficiency of mechanical equipment.
  • Perform work on minor construction and remodeling projects, including startups of new installations.
  • Provide guidance to junior technicians.
  • Report to work as scheduled by the supervisor.
  • Follow applicable safety procedures and company policies.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working on refrigeration equipment in convenience stores or supermarkets is strongly preferred.
