Requirements
  • A high school education or equivalent.
  • Ability to stand or walk for 95% of the workday and frequently perform standing, reaching, lifting items weighing 40 pounds or less, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, climbing, pushing, twisting, and pulling.
  • Ability to occasionally climb and balance using a step stool.
  • Ability to perform repetitive finger, hand, and wrist movements, including lifting, keypad entry, chopping, filling, and sealing packaging.
  • Ability to use both hands to grasp, grip, move, or operate objects and equipment.
  • Ability to follow department regulations, standard recipes, proper portion sizes, verbal instructions, food safety procedures, and HACCP standards.
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment properly and follow safety precautions.
  • Ability to accurately take and record food cooking and serving temperatures as required by HACCP standards.
  • Ability to learn and operate a point-of-sale system and reconcile money daily.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including electronic mail and computer use.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written, graphic, and oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and follow district policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to travel to multiple schools when requested and maintain a flexible work schedule.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily preparation, service, and sale of school meals.
  • Wash, clean, peel, cut, and chop fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat items.
  • Set up and clean serving areas for timely student meal service, including dishwashing and sanitation of workstations.
  • Serve meals while complying with school food regulations and health department sanitation standards.
  • Independently follow menu and recipe instructions and prepare food according to required temperatures, appearance, and portion sizes.
  • Unload and properly store delivered food items.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system and reconcile monies daily for accuracy.
  • Participate in PGI classes and annual USDA Mandatory Professional Standards training.
  • Pursue regulatory updates and provide sustainable solutions.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with Nutrition Services staff, school staff, students, parents, and the surrounding community.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
