Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence with computer-aided design software, including SolidWorks and Product Data Management.
  • Expertise designing parts for manufacturing processes including plastic injection molding, long-chain glass- or carbon-filled plastics, machining, and casting.
  • Experience with mechanical analysis, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, static and dynamic analysis, finite element analysis, and thermal analysis.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and making complex designs practical and scalable.
  • Experience with Asia-based new product introduction and willingness to travel.
  • Ability to deliver quality work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Ability to relocate to and work at the company's Bay Area office.
  • Motivation to improve human movement.
  • Ability to provide satisfactory proof of eligibility to maintain full-time employment in the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Own computer-aided design for critical product subassemblies through architecture, design, mass optimization, design for manufacturing, tolerance analysis, implementation, testing, and commercialization.
  • Own and manage vendor relationships, including travel to Asia, and develop cost-reduction processes over time.
  • Drive engineering specifications from product requirements and work cross-functionally.
  • Select materials and manufacturing processes that meet product performance and durability requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews.
  • Develop specifications, requirements, test methods, and protocols through formal verification to ensure design functionality, safety, and efficacy.
  • Write technical documentation and assembly instructions to support knowledge transfer to manufacturing partners.
  • Wear prototypes several hours per week to participate in data collection and on-body testing and provide feedback.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with a scaled consumer or medical product is ideally preferred.
  • Experience with robotics, mechatronics, or powered consumer electronics such as drones or robot vacuums is desirable.
