Requirements
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license for assigned vehicles, have an acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles record, and pass a driving test.
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
  • Must be able to use an iPad with GPS, texting, and truck inspection report functions.
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A medical card is required depending on city and/or state requirements.
  • Passing a Department of Transportation physical is required; failure to pass could result in immediate termination of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Operate the assigned vehicle and equipment safely and securely, report accidents or damage, and complete required paperwork.
  • Perform daily vehicle walk-around inspections and promptly report maintenance problems.
  • Keep the truck cab and box clean and remove personal items daily.
  • Plan daily routes based on assigned pickups and complete all scheduled calls, including donation boxes.
  • Develop assigned routes, including bagging or carding both sides and across the street of each pickup as instructed.
  • Represent The Salvation Army by treating customers courteously, accepting or refusing donations appropriately, following the Manual for Production Assistants, reporting pickup problems to the dispatcher, and maintaining a professional appearance.
  • Maintain accurate delivery manifests, trip logs, Green Sheets, and other records while following communication procedures and 10 codes.
  • Load and unload assigned or other trucks as requested, safely secure and handle goods, prevent movement or damage during transit, and use available space efficiently.
  • Assist thrift store personnel with deliveries, item placement, and removal of trash.
  • Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, providing guidance and modeling appropriate work habits.
  • Support the Adult Rehabilitation Centers' work therapy program by modeling professional conduct and work habits and providing supervision as directed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or Administrator.
