Requirements
  • A Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, emergency medicine, or critical care settings is preferred.
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner with Acute Care certification, or board certification as a Physician Assistant, is required.
  • An active New Jersey license is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification and CDS/DEA authorization are required.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities are required.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of acute surgical patients, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with resident and attending physicians.
  • Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement and removal, and wound care management.
  • Work closely with surgeons, critical care intensivists, surgery and medicine residents, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
  • Continuously evaluate patient condition, monitor vital signs, and interpret laboratory results, diagnostic imaging, and other data to guide treatment decisions.
  • Provide education and emotional support to patients' families, ensuring they are informed about the patient's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate electronic medical records of patient care, including assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Serve as a clinical leader through nursing staff education and contribute to the training of students and residents as needed.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.
