- A Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, emergency medicine, or critical care settings is preferred.
- Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner with Acute Care certification, or board certification as a Physician Assistant, is required.
- An active New Jersey license is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification and CDS/DEA authorization are required.
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities are required.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills are required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment is required.
- Perform comprehensive assessments of acute surgical patients, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with resident and attending physicians.
- Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement and removal, and wound care management.
- Work closely with surgeons, critical care intensivists, surgery and medicine residents, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
- Continuously evaluate patient condition, monitor vital signs, and interpret laboratory results, diagnostic imaging, and other data to guide treatment decisions.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients' families, ensuring they are informed about the patient's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
- Maintain detailed and accurate electronic medical records of patient care, including assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.
- Serve as a clinical leader through nursing staff education and contribute to the training of students and residents as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.
