Requirements
  • Must pass a U.S. federal security screening prior to beginning employment.
  • Attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
  • Documented or demonstrated working knowledge of analytical laboratory operations, logistics, hazardous waste management, and business-related software such as Microsoft Office.
  • An Associate Degree in Physical Sciences or Business and at least three years of laboratory, field sampling or monitoring, data review, or other relevant experience; alternatively, a high school diploma with six years of experience in an environmental laboratory.
  • Ability to work in an office, clinic, or laboratory setting and perform required sitting, standing, walking, reaching, handling, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and work around potential toxic or caustic chemicals and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors and to speak and hear.
Responsibilities
  • Follow specific guidance and draft standard operating procedures for management review.
  • Receive samples and enter data for Laboratory Information Management System tracking according to detailed instructions.
  • Prepare and analyze samples according to standard operating procedures and Environmental Protection Agency reference methods.
  • Provide general laboratory support, including glassware preparation, according to detailed instructions.
  • Work on foot for most of the day while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, generally a lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Perform filing, data entry, word processing, and similar clerical tasks as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Administrative support skills including word processing and editing, spreadsheet and database maintenance, scheduling and calendar management, preferably with web-based tools.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Possession of 40-hour HAZWOPER and RCRA training.
