Your Role in Our Journey

We’re looking for a Senior Staff Developer to join Jane’s Clinical Group. This group of teams focuses on empowering practitioners to provide the best patient care by delivering delightful user experiences in areas like charting, intake forms, clinical surveys, AI-powered scribes and more. We’re also embarking on an exciting, multi-year journey to support a new type of Jane user: the 3rd-party developer. By creating extensibility opportunities within the charting domain, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Jane’s future.

As a resourceful & curious problem solver, you’ll embody a bias to action, distilling complexity to uncover and address the core of challenging problem. This role emphasizes asking the right questions over having all the answers, valuing thoughtful decision-making while moving swiftly and with confidence. You’ll be hands-on, leading by example and fostering a culture of technical excellence, strong reviews, and continuous improvement.

The experience we feel we need

A University Degree in Computer Science or a STEM degree combined with approximately 15+ years of hands-on experience as a Software Engineer. Candidates with a Master’s or PhD may require less hands-on experience.
If you don’t have a formal degree or education in Computer Science or a STEM field, we value additional relevant experience (typically 3+ years) and the ability to demonstrate equivalent technical expertise and meaningful contributions.
Depth and diversity of experience, already operating in a leadership capacity at the Senior Staff or Architect level, demonstrated by successfully leading complex, high-impact projects with scope spanning across multiple teams and organizational domains.
Technical leadership experience at the group/department level, with a scope spanning across several teams, consistently influencing leadership and team members
Experience in shaping and driving the technical strategy for a group/department by participating and contributing to long-term vision planning (12-24 months), roadmap, and strategy planning
Actively drives architectural decisions, system designs, and technology selection, ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals and scalability
Proven experience in establishing and upholding best practices while maintaining high engineering standards across multiple teams and/or the organization, ensuring consistent adoption and alignment with organizational goals
Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, collaborating effectively with stakeholders and leadership to ensure cohesive, efficient, and timely product development
Our development team at Jane primarily works with Ruby on Rails, but we welcome applicants with experience in Java, C#, & Python. We strongly believe that great developers can learn any tech stack, so you’ll have the resources and support needed to ramp up on ours if you haven’t worked with it previously. Compensation Expectations for the Role

Jane’s committed to paying our team members fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $185,300 and maximum annual salary of $301,100. As you may have noticed, this salary range is quite large, and this is intentional to account for the growth someone will experience in the role throughout their time at Jane (i.e., from building the skills, to accomplished, to highly proficient, all the way to achieving excellence in the role). When hiring talented folks to join the Jane team, we’ve found that new team members are best set up for success when hired with the expectation of being fully accomplished in the role, which for this role would reflect a starting salary of $220,100.

It’s also possible to join Jane at a salary above or below this, which would mean a salary below $220,100 typically reflects someone who has all the potential to be fully accomplished in the role but doesn’t yet possess all the skills required, while a salary above $220,100 is typically for individuals who are currently in this role at Jane and had the opportunity to make a significant positive impact on our customers, product and company with deep Jane knowledge.
