Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification or above.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles.
  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary interface between individual technicians, physicians, fellows, and patients for daily operations.
  • Communicate and disseminate general information and policy or procedure changes to personnel.
  • Interview and select new staff members.
  • Ensure that staff are trained, developed, and empowered to effectively perform their jobs.
  • Handle the formal progressive disciplinary process.
  • Conduct, monitor, and evaluate the effectiveness of employee performance improvement plans.
  • Develop strategic goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the review, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures.
  • Serve as patients' advocate to ensure patients' needs and concerns are addressed.
  • Establish protocols to ensure confidentiality of patient information.
  • Establish an educational program for ophthalmic technicians.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensure employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policies and procedures.
