  • Understanding of cable placement, depth, bonding, grounding, and enclosure installation standards
  • Ability to coordinate with the VPS Resident and contractors and communicate about issues and incidents
  • Compliance with safety and appearance guidelines for on-site staff
  • Ability to follow permitting processes and verify ROW permits, easements, and landowner notifications
  • Ability to work on-site with plow crews and contractors to ensure proper materials and slack in cable
Responsibilities
  • Review the proposed route with the customer and follow contract sheet if provided
  • Verify you are on the correct property before work begins and select the best route to the house; do not place a drop on someone else’s property
  • Inspect cable type, duct, riser guard, and grounding material to ensure correct size and type
  • Ensure that cable depth meets required standards and consult the Resident with questions
  • Ensure proper grounding and bonding per contract
  • Confirm existing facilities are located and exposed before crossing
  • Ensure BM83 and enclosure are installed correctly (neat, with the correct number of clamps)
  • Place and complete the decal inside the enclosure; use Sharpie if client does not require a decal
  • Confirm all clean-up is completed before leaving property (holes filled, yard raked and seeded)
  • Notify the Resident immediately of any damages (incident report same day)
  • Notify if any new crew not of same company as general contractor
  • Do not sit in vehicle during construction
  • Daily record all cable sequentials, start/end points, and reel numbers into Fieldmaps and ped book; update Fieldmaps and FiberView; complete daily log and sync Fieldmaps; update cable route
  • Weekly submit a progress report to the Resident before end of week; turn in ped/plow books to the Resident
  • As Needed follow up on partially completed drops to ensure timely completion
  • Be Present with the plow crew during construction; do not sit in vehicle
  • Ensure correct materials are used and cable placed with slack; use 600 pounds breakaway when pulling cable
  • Record all cable sequentials and installed units in Fieldmaps; complete daily log; depth checks 2-3 per rural mile and 2 per city block; revise route changes as staked
  • Submit weekly progress reports and turn in ped/plow books to the Resident
  • Pre-Construction: Obtain and review all public ROW permits; understand placement depths and restoration; confirm private easements signed; review staking sheets and landowner requests; verify landowners notified before entering property
  • Daily permit compliance checks; confirm cable placement follows requirements; double-check route changes with the Resident before construction; coordinate with Resident and ROW officials if concerns; allow time for crop removal during harvest; track crop damage; document fence cuts and ensure repairs
  • Never direct the contractor; all instructions must go through contractor foreman or VPS Resident; be proactive in identifying issues and resolving with VPS Resident
  • Ensure all records and reports accurate and up to date at end of day
  • Manage communications with contractors with awareness of liability; avoid unnecessary on-site project management actions
  • Represent VPS and client professionally on and off site; maintain professional appearance; avoid vendor-specific apparel during client projects
  • Present yourself as project lead on-site; wear appropriate attire and vehicle signage
  • Follow vehicle guidelines per company handbook
