Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead language learner by modeling and facilitating English as a Second Language learning opportunities for campus staff.
  • Support implementation of state standards, including the English Language Proficiency Standards, through district-adopted curricula and effective sheltered instructional strategies.
  • Improve language-rich classroom instruction through collaboration, co-planning, coaching cycles, trusting relationships with staff, and support for the learning process.
  • Build sheltered instructional capacity with campus teams through a gradual release model and facilitate conversations about language-rich instructional decisions.
  • Support and communicate campus and District initiatives.
  • Foster shared responsibility between campuses and the District to know every student by name and need.
  • Assist district and campus administration in identifying ESL programmatic growth areas for the campus and grade-level teams.
  • Meet regularly with campus administrators to monitor English Learner student progress and develop responsive plans addressing student needs.
  • Partner with and plan professional learning alongside the campus instructional coach to improve outcomes for English Learner students.
  • Assist teachers in interpreting test data and using it to adjust instruction linguistically.
  • Maintain ethics and confidentiality regarding student and teacher records and classroom performance.
  • Collaboratively develop lessons implementing a co-teach model that fulfills District ESL program requirements.
  • Use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment appropriate to English Learner proficiency levels and needs.
  • Develop and implement pull-out lessons for identified English Learner newcomers.
  • Assess student proficiency levels and use results to plan instructional activities and linguistic accommodations.
  • Coordinate Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System testing for the assigned campus.
  • Attend and participate in faculty and ESL department meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree is preferred.
  • EC-6 certification is preferred.
  • Experience as an elementary teacher is preferred.
