Requirements
  • Graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Possess a credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies.
  • Have at least two years of combined operating scrub room or surgical technology instructor experience within the past five years.
  • Undergo a criminal background check.
  • Demonstrate technological literacy and innovation in instructional delivery.
  • Maintain current knowledge of surgical technology and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Maintain student-record privacy and security in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, time management, accuracy, attention to detail, multitasking, and effective professional communication.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and deliver didactic, laboratory, and classroom instruction in a community college setting.
  • Support teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop lesson plans for didactic, laboratory, and clinical experiences.
  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the clinical education component, including clinical affiliate contracts, student clinical rotation placement, affiliate visits, and evaluations.
  • Ensure effective program operation and compliance with ARC/STSA, SACS, and other regulatory agency requirements.
  • Assist with implementing college policies, objectives, functions, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
  • Enforce college and program policies.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, collegewide committees, meetings, and program advisory committee work as assigned.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback through formative evaluations.
  • Document student progress and maintain attendance, grading, and student learning outcome records.
  • Correlate clinical education with didactic education and evaluate student performance and learning.
  • Develop fair and accurate methods to assess student progress toward stated learning outcomes and objectives.
  • Maintain office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Assist the Program Director with preparing reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Participate in student recruitment and advisement.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

  • Teaching experience in an accredited educational program in surgical technology.
