Cyclists ride 300 miles for cancer research. Posted: Sep 27, 2026 / 05:40 PM CDT Updated: Sep 27, 2026 / 05:40 PM CDT DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) - Cancer touches the lives of millions of Americans every day. That's why dozens of cyclists took to the road, riding hundreds of miles to raise money for cancer research. "Hopefully someday we'll be able to think or say that cancer is something we read about in the history books, and we've solved it," retired Nucor general manager Mike Lee said. Thirty Nucor employees rode their bikes from Nashville to the Nucor steel plant in Decatur as part of the annual Cycle the South event. This is the 10th year in a row that employees rode bikes in support of cancer research. They rode about 300 miles over four days, raising money and spreading awareness along the way. "A lot of hills, a lot of climbs. It's tough, but we make it, and that's all for a great cause," Lee said. Thousands of people are diagnosed with cancer in Alabama every year. Many of the riders in the cycling event have been impacted by cancer in some way in their lives. "If you know Nucor, you know we're community-driven. We're looking for anything we can do to help in the community. We have 800 teammates here, and every single one of them get behind everything we do for Relay," American Cancer Society volunteer Jean Hutto said. The concept for this event is based on a similar ride that happens in Ohio. Cyclists take different routes each year, with last year's ride going from New Orleans to Jackson, Mississippi. Family and friends cheered on the squad of cyclists as they pulled into Nucor. "The support that we get from everybody is, I couldn't ask for anything more. It's phenomenal," event organizer Karen Woldahl said.
Jim Cramer prefers Nucor over Reliance, calling the latter "terrific" and "a very, very good company" during Mad Money's lightning round on 8 September. He previously described Reliance as "not outrageously expensive" after a sharp price increase. Reliance reported second-quarter revenue of $4.63 billion, up 26.5% year over year, with non-GAAP diluted EPS rising 41.5% to $6.27. The company expects third-quarter tons sold to decline 2% to 4% sequentially, whilst average selling price per ton should increase 1% to 3%. Nucor reported second-quarter net earnings of $1.16 billion, or $5.04 per diluted share, compared with $603 million a year earlier. The company expects higher consolidated earnings in the third quarter, driven by higher realised prices and stable steel-mill volumes. Hedge fund holdings increased at both companies during the second quarter.

840 Wire partitions improve steel mill safety. Project overview: Steel production requires safety solutions that can withstand a demanding work environment. Nucor West Virginia turned to Airline and WireCrafters to help strengthen safety across its growing facility. The project combines durable guarding, integrated safety features, and expert support to create a solution built for the demands of steel production. Customer description. Nucor West Virginia needed to keep employees away from dangerous areas during steel production. The facility includes several active work zones with heavy equipment and moving machinery. Nucor selected the WireCrafters 840 Wire Partition System for several areas of the facility, including the hot mill, cold mill, and remelt areas, with additional work planned for finishing. The partitions create a strong physical barrier that helps keep employees at a safe distance during operation. This solution gives Nucor a simple and effective way to improve safety across several areas of the facility. Why choose WireCrafters? Airline chose WireCrafters for its product quality, ease of installation, and time-saving design. WireCrafters also offered the ability to bundle safety interlocks with the guarding system. This gave Airline a more complete solution for the customer. The WireCrafters Sales and Engineering teams also supported the project throughout. This mix of quality products, added safety features, and strong customer service helped Airline meet Nucor West Virginia's needs. The WireCrafters difference.
