Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED equivalent, plus two years of experience performing building, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical, carpentry, alarm systems, and minor construction maintenance and repairs, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history is required.
  • Required licenses for the specialized field must be maintained.
  • The ability to read, write, and speak English is required.
  • Adequate attendance is required.
  • The employee must be able to perform light to medium physical work, including frequent walking or standing and regularly exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force.
  • The employee must be able to work in a detention facility performing facility maintenance.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, assign, and review work; establish work schedules; maintain standards; monitor work in progress; inspect completed assignments; and answer questions while providing advice and direction as needed.
  • Perform complex maintenance and diagnostic services for carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and similar systems in the maintenance, repair, or construction of county facilities or structures.
  • Estimate and procure compatible materials and tools required for maintenance, repair, and construction-related functions.
  • Install, maintain, and repair surveillance systems.
  • Maintain work records and documents, including work orders and formal and informal inspection records.
  • Prepare and process daily work reports, inspection reports, work orders, requisitions, sketches, and related documents.
  • Plan wiring layouts and install wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Inspect facilities to identify maintenance and repair requirements and priorities.
  • Respond to 24-hour emergency and non-emergency service calls, diagnose problems, and make minor repairs.
  • Work in conditions involving routine and frequent exposure to bright or dim light, dust and pollen, extreme heat or cold, wet or humid conditions, extreme noise, animals or wildlife, vibration, fumes or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, electrical shock, and heights.
