Viatris wins FDA approval for Ryzumvi to treat presbyopia in adults

Viatris has won US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for RYZUMVI (phentolamine ophthalmic solution 0.75%) to treat presbyopia in adults, the company announced on October 16, 2026. RYZUMVI was already approved in the US for pharmacologically-induced mydriasis, and is the only commercially available FDA-approved product for that use. The new approval adds presbyopia to its indications. Viatris is exploring a US partner to commercialise the product for presbyopia. Under a global licensing agreement with Opus Genetics, Viatris holds exclusive US commercial rights. Presbyopia is the gradual loss of near focusing ability with age, typically noticeable in the early to mid-40s.
