Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in bioengineering, biology, or a related technical field is required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in a research and development laboratory is required.
  • Strong experience with mammalian cell culture and basic biochemical assays is required.
  • Familiarity with microscopy, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, spectrophotometers, and other standard analytical equipment is required.
  • The candidate must maintain detailed records and demonstrate strong writing, interpersonal, communication, organizational, time-management, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary, milestone-oriented environment.
  • The candidate must be comfortable handling human samples, including biosafety and HIPAA compliance.
Responsibilities
  • Develop a diverse range of three-dimensional tissue models and learn, deploy, and develop technical protocols in collaboration with the principal investigator and lab members.
  • Maintain the laboratory's three-dimensional hydrogel biomaterial library, including characterization of reagents and gels using molarity calculations, reconstitution, colorimetric assays, and standard polymer science methods.
  • Assist with tissue isolation, passaging, and freezing of two-dimensional and three-dimensional cultures; cell culture; bioassays; and analysis.
  • Lead maintenance and organization of the tissue biobank, including logistics, handling, and tissue processing for cell culture.
  • Prepare and maintain hydrogel biomaterials and perform biochemical assays of tissue performance, data analysis and interpretation, and progress-report preparation.
  • Assist with daily and weekly laboratory maintenance tasks supporting tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and tissue imaging studies.
  • Assist in the tissue-processing pipeline for samples received from clinical collaborators.
  • Participate in duties relating to the shared laboratory space.
  • Support cell culture expansion and maintenance, media preparation, and cell-bank organization.
  • Maintain the biomaterial bank, including peptide reconstitution and characterization.
  • Assist with ordering and monitoring stock levels, prepare laboratory stock solutions for assays and culture medium, autoclave trash, coordinate waste pickup, and write and update protocols and general laboratory activity records.
  • Provide experiment assistance as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience with three-dimensional in vitro models, biomaterials, organoid culture, and/or synthesis and characterization of polymer materials is preferred.
