Requirements
  • Perform intermediate to advanced account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes and audits, including monitoring and reviewing audit-provided-by-client schedules.
  • Create and establish accounting systems, procedures, and controls.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Financial Accounting Standards, practices, and procedures; assist in implementing new standards.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced features, and have solid experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting and either a master's degree in a business discipline or a Certified Public Accountant license for Tier I, or a master's degree in Accounting or a Certified Public Accountant license for Tier II.
  • Have at least five years of accounting experience or at least three years of public accounting experience; Tier II also requires at least two years in a role with advanced responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate extensive accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate experience leading components of month-end close or financial statement preparation for Tier II.
  • Be able to support internal and external audits with minimal oversight for Tier II.
  • Have previous experience in higher education or nonprofit fund accounting for Tier II.
  • Coach and mentor staff accountants.
  • Be able to articulate and defend the Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
  • Not be in default on any federal student or parent loan.
  • Not have been convicted of, or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of government funds, or been administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or another material violation of law involving government funds.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including professionally representing Liberty University to business and community customers and associates.
  • Display self-motivation, multitasking, listening, discernment, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems.
  • Be able to perform extended periods of deskwork or keyboard use, communicate orally, move around the building as needed, and regularly lift 10 pounds or less.
  • If driving is required, hold a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain financial records and ensure financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Ensure the accuracy of ledger entries and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
  • Assist in preparing Statements of Financial Position, Statements of Activities, Statements of Cash Flows, and other financial reports.
  • Perform intermediate to advanced account analysis and reconciliations.
  • Participate in closing processes and prepare and review schedules for external audits.
  • Create and establish accounting systems, procedures, and accounting controls.
  • Apply accounting standards, practices, and procedures and assist in implementing new standards.
  • Coach and mentor staff accountants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
