Neoclouds explained: GPU providers behind the AI boom face a $3.5T impairment risk

Neoclouds, specialist providers that rent out GPU capacity for AI training and inference, have gone from unknown startups to listed companies with contracts worth billions of dollars. CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN lead the listed group; Lambda, Crusoe and Fluidstack remain private. Their shares fell hard in October 2026. CoreWeave dropped 29%, leaving it valued at about $34 billion against a 2025 peak of about $90 billion; Nebius fell 27% and IREN 32%. CoreWeave's unsecured debt yielded about 15%. On October 14, 2026, Gartner predicted that more than 80% of neocloud providers will stop operating independently by 2030. It also warned that more than $3.5 trillion of AI infrastructure spending could face impairment. Demand remains strong. CoreWeave co-founder Brannin McBee said nearly all of its 2027 capacity is sold.

NVIDIA built Minerva to find the one bad component slowing an AI factory.

NVIDIA built Minerva to find the one bad component slowing an AI factory. Minerva maps GPUs, switches and cables to the jobs running on them so operators can trace a slow training run to the part causing it. IREN already uses it, and Dell Technologies, Lenovo and Supermicro will offer it to their own customers. Ryan Gibson Published: 10/22/2026 NVIDIA has released Minerva, software for the part of running an AI factory that comes after the racks are switched on. It follows factory-built DSX POD units, shown a day earlier, that NVIDIA says can cut deployment at a prepared site to as little as 14 days. Minerva is an AIOps platform that collects telemetry from GPUs, networking, storage, schedulers and workloads, then runs purpose-built AI models over that data to help operations teams find problems earlier. NVIDIA launched it Thursday as part of its GTC Berlin announcements. In the blog post introducing Minerva, NVIDIA's Brian Sparks pointed to how small the warning signs can be, such as a GPU running hotter than its peers or an NVMe drive losing performance under load. At AI factory scale, one degraded component like that can slow an entire job, he wrote. Traditional monitoring tools often split the data center into separate views, with networking, compute, site reliability and machine learning teams each watching their own piece, the post said. Minerva builds a dynamic knowledge graph instead, mapping GPUs, SuperNICs, switches and cables to the jobs running on them, so an operator can trace a slow training run back to the component behind it, even in a factory with hundreds of thousands of GPUs. One incident instead of an alert storm. Minerva analyzes billions of data points per hour with supervised and unsupervised machine learning. It learns what normal behavior looks like, catches anomalies it hasn't seen before, predicts failures as they start to form and correlates related events using the factory's topology. When one fault sets off a burst of symptoms, the platform can group them into a single incident with a likely root cause instead of sending every symptom to an operator. A built-in AI assistant answers questions about cluster health in natural language, grounded in live telemetry, and suggests remediation. Minerva can also connect to outside agentic AI tools. Teams can keep a person in the loop to apply fixes by hand or hook the platform into automation through infrastructure APIs and external systems. NVIDIA frames the payoff around what it calls AI factory yield, measured through GPU hours, goodput, cluster uptime and token production. It says Minerva lengthens the time between interruptions and shortens time to repair, though the post doesn't put numbers on either. IREN already runs it, and Tesla and IBM plan to. IREN is using Minerva in its AI factories now. "NVIDIA Minerva gives our operations team one view across the network, the GPUs and the jobs running on them, so we focus more on proactive maintenance rather than troubleshooting," said Denis Skrinnikoff, IREN's chief technology officer. Aolani, Bitdeer AI, IBM, Jio, Lambda, Quake AI and Tesla plan to deploy it. Lambda previewed its plans in a blog post on Wednesday, saying the goal for its users is "fewer workload interruptions, faster fixes, higher goodput, and more tokens produced." Minerva sits alongside open source tooling NVIDIA expanded the same day it showed DSX POD. Three DSX OS components went into developer preview, including a Cluster Readiness Engine that runs distributed workloads to validate GPU clusters before production work arrives and isolates failures to specific nodes, the company said in a newsroom release. IREN and Lambda are among the cloud partners exploring those components. Some operators will be able to buy Minerva from their server vendor. Dell Technologies, Lenovo and Supermicro will offer it as part of their AI factory operations portfolios, and Lenovo said in its GTC Berlin roundup that Minerva "can help teams manage AI infrastructure availability and performance as environments scale." IREN stock rises: AI cloud provider plans 300MW AI campus in Spain for 2028. Published: Oct 21 2026, 07:10 PM IST * FB * TW * Linkdin * Whatsapp * GNFollow Us IREN's Badajoz campus is set to provide an estimated 300 megawatts of capacity and has already secured grid power for the site as it is built. * IREN shares surged over 4% in premarket trading Wednesday after the AI cloud provider said it plans to offer managed AI cloud services from a planned campus in Badajoz, Spain. * The company made the announcement during its GTC Berlin conference and also launched IREN Europe. * Demand for sovereign AI services is growing as European customers grow more concerned about where their data is stored, Co-CEO Daniel Roberts said. IREN shares (IREN) edged higher in early morning trading on Wednesday after the company said it is betting on European companies that want to run their artificial intelligence (AI) closer to home. The AI cloud provider said it plans to offer managed AI cloud services from a planned campus in Badajoz, Spain, with initial operations targeted for 2028. IREN made the announcement at NVIDIA's GTC Berlin conference, adding it had set up IREN Europe, a holding company for its business in the region, and had obtained the civil works license for the Spanish site, which the firm originally announced in May. IREN stock was up over 4% in pre-market trading, erasing its previous-day loss. On Stocktwits, retail sentiment around IREN remained in the 'extremely bullish' zone, accompanied by 'high' chatter levels over the past day. IREN targets Europe's sovereign AI Demand. Sovereign AI means local control of data and compute. Customers in Europe care about "where their data sits and who's running the infrastructure," said Co-CEO Daniel Roberts. IREN intends to merge the Badajoz capacity with Mirantis' software, which it purchased earlier this year. That includes Mirantis' k0rdent AI platform, which can deploy and manage AI infrastructure while keeping customer workloads separate, the company said. It also allows customers to choose where data is stored and how it is secured, IREN said. According to an earlier release from the company, IREN announced Aug. 4 that it had closed the deal with Mirantis. Inside the Badajoz campus. The campus is expected to have about 300 megawatts (MW) of capacity, IREN said. The company has already secured grid power for the site. It said it continues to hold close discussions with local, regional and national authorities as the project develops. The company stated the site will use closed-loop liquid cooling, which uses very little water. IREN is also making the site compatible to work with NVIDIA's DSX AI Factory Platform. IREN took ownership of Badajoz through its acquisition of Spanish developer Nostrum Group. The deal closed in June and added about 490MW of secured power in Spain, and its team of more than 60 is led by Gabriel Nebreda, Chief Executive Officer of IREN Spain. New leadership in Europe. Former Banco Santander CEO Ángel Corcóstegui will chair the board of IREN Europe, the company said. Roberto Purcaro, previously head of Complex Opportunities globally at Macquarie Capital, has joined the board as Executive Director for the Europe division. Purcaro said "Badajoz is where IREN Europe begins," adding that "IREN develops its own sites and operates them directly and will do the same in Europe." He added that "Our focus from here is the campus and the customers who'll use it." No customers were identified for Badajoz in the release. The 2028 start date is also still a target subject to permits, grid connections, and financing, IREN said. IREN has been down over 29% so far this year, and lost over 55% in the last 12 months.
