Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience in a network or systems engineering role.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, with additional years of experience allowed as a substitute.
  • Security+ certification.
  • Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate certification.
  • ITIL Foundation certification, or the ability to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
  • Experience with firewalls and UNIX/Linux.
  • Ability to implement and enforce local network usage policies and procedures.
  • Experience installing Microsoft Windows Server in host and compute environments and using server images.
  • Experience implementing storage solutions, high availability, Domain Name Systems, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, network connectivity and remote access solutions, core and distributed network solutions, and advanced network infrastructure.
  • Experience maintaining and monitoring server environments.
  • U.S. citizenship and a current Secret security clearance.
  • Eligibility to undergo a U.S. government security investigation and obtain access to classified information.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and manage the enterprise boundary management server, ensuring it has a duplicate configuration at the AFCENT Network Operations and Security Center continuity-of-operations location.
  • Analyze firewall reports, firewall logs, and other metrics; identify substandard network performance; and engineer and implement solutions to address identified anomalies.
  • Operate security devices remotely and locally.
  • Create custom UNIX scripts for task-specific requirements.
  • Research, document, and track outages, trouble calls, and network intrusions through resolution.
  • Use firewall toolsets to analyze and report on the overall health of local and deployed firewalls.
  • Recommend changes and resolutions in response to trend analysis.
  • Perform enterprise-level firewall fault isolation and resolution, including troubleshooting access control lists and proxies affecting network traffic; troubleshoot firewall issues on the OpenBSD operating system, including permissions and type enforcement.
  • Configure and maintain Domain Name System and Berkeley Internet Name Domain services and manage the full range of enterprise-level firewall features.
  • Provide on-the-job training to local help desk personnel and engineers on firewall components and solutions.
  • Implement backup procedures, guide remote users through backup and restoration actions, and perform those actions locally.
  • Assist with engineering new security device implementations.
  • Analyze network and system needs and participate in planning, designing, upgrading, and deploying enterprise data center hardware and software using a project-based timeline.
  • Manage proxy servers, internal and external email gateways, and external Domain Name System management.
  • Provide guidance and remote administration for firewall and Enterprise Manager optimization, point-to-point virtual private network connections between firewalls, access control list management, IP filter management, log analysis, installation, cloning, and one-to-many failover.
  • Provide local-area network and wide-area network support.
